Here is another thought:
Who said that weak signal work could/had only to be done with narrowband modes?
A properly designed Spread Spectrum receiver will use the added diversity that SS offers in order to decrease the probability of error, thus let you communicate further. Isn't that what weak signal work is all about? (stretching the limits of your station).
