My Background

I was born in Tampa, Florida on March 15th and grew up in the same house for 21 years. My parents are Julio and Sue Giovinco and I have one brother (Michael) and 2 nieces (Rochelle - age 12 and Gabriele - age 9 months).
I began bowling at age 6, since both my parents bowled in local leagues. I started with AJBC leagues, then progressed to college bowling at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, FL for 3 years and then at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA for 1 year.
I had an opportunity to join the LPBT for two years in 1982 and 1983, but had trouble quickly adapting to the lane conditions. Since there were only 7 to 13 tournaments per year, it was hard to make a living on the tour and maintain the luxury of food and shelter.
I basically bowled in "limbo" for 3 years until I got my amateur standing back and tried out for TEAM USA. My first shot at the team was in 1989 when I qualified 7th for the 1990 TEAM USA. I had the good fortune of advancing to the main squad (top 6) when Linda Kelly decided to give the pro tour a try. Basically, Linda's decision changed my whole life.
I've had the honor of making the team 5 times (1990, 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1997) and will continue to try out until my body wears out or when the "thrill of winning and or competing" is gone.
