Router information.
If you're interested in a PPPoE router for your ADSL modem or need a router for your
cable modem, you may want to check out the following products:
- NexLand Routers.
I own the ISBPro800. Its a little pricy, but the PPPoE code is rock solid and I'm really happy with it.
- Linksys
BEFSR41 - EtherFast 4-Port Cable/DSL Router.
- Netgear Netgear routers.
- Linux. If you install a PPPoe client on a Linux box, you can use it as
a PPPoE router for the other machines on your network.
Should be just as stable as a hardware router and Linux fans love this solution.
A good PPPoE client is made by
Roaring Pengiun.
This solution is particularly effective if you've got an extra machine lying around
or if you've already got Linux running on one of your boxes
You can also combine Linux with a hardware router.
Hardware routers implicitly provide firewall protection, but I still choose
to run ZoneAlarm on my client PCs. If you use a Linux PPPoE router, but sure
to install a Linux firewall on the box. ZoneAlarm is still recommended for all Windows boxes.
