On Windows 98 and Win 2000, you can increase the window until no additional performance gain is seen. Most people won't see significant performance boosts above 256000, although, some have reported increased performance at 356000. Be careful though, big receive windows can be problematic on lossy networks, since you've got more data to re-transmit when things go wrong.
