Welcome to the Core Java Media Framework Update Page!

THE source for software and text updates to Core JMF.

Here are the problems we've uncovered so far in Core JMF:

FTP site

The Prentice Hall FTP site is constantly updated as bugs are found. Check it out!.

JMF Beta 2 Woes

Core JMF was released before the JMF 2.0 beta. We've uncovered some minor glitches that are fixed in the source code below (looks like Sun removed some private APIs that I shouldn't have been using anyway).

CD-ROM filename corruption.

The Captionmediahandler sample has a corrupt file in it (CaptionControlPanelCom#A95.java). The real filename should be CaptionControlPanelComponent.java. Either rename the file to the correct name, or download the correct version.

Win32 CD Player

The JNI source code for the CD Player was mistakenly omitted from the CD.

Documentation for sun.audio package

The Zipped version of the sun.audio documentation was mistakenly omitted from the CD. The docs are also online.

Explanation of multimedia content

There are no .wav files in sample code directories on the Core JMF CD. You must substitute your own multimedia content in order for the samples to function.

You will need to create wave files for the following samples:

  1. Backdoor
  2. Screendoor
  3. AlohaJMF
  4. AlohaJR

You will also need to create your own MCML content for the samples that use that format. These include:

  1. CaptionMediaHandler
  2. MediaProxy
  3. SyncTest
Here's a sample MCML file to get you started.

My readers are important to me and I'm sorry for any inconvenience these bugs may have caused you. If you find any new problems, please contact me so we can improve the quality of the book. Thanks.
