New House Checklist

Are you building a new house? If so, you will definitely want to refer to the checklist that is shown below, before your final walk through. 

Grading
* Does the ground around the foundation slope away from the house?
* Does water accumulate in puddles?
* Are there signs of erosion?
* Is the shrubbery placed at least 2-3 feet from the foundation?
Appearance
* Are all windows and doors sealed, and protected by weather stripping?
* Are trim and fittings tight?
* Does the paint cover smoothly?
* Are there any cracks in excess of 1/4 inch wide or showing vertical displacement in walkways, driveway and/or on the garage floor?
* Are there any stoops and/or steps pulling away?
* Do gutters, downspouts and splash-blocks drain away from the foundation?
Doors and Windows
* Are all doors and windows properly sealed?
* Are they the type specified in the contract?
* Is glass in place, and not loose or cracked?
* Do window and door locks fit properly?
Finishes
* Is painting & wallpaper satisfactory in all rooms, closets and hallways?
* Is trim & molding in place?
* Are the tile walls properly finished?
Floors
* Do carpet seams match? Is the carpet tight?
* Are there excessive floor squeaks?
* Are there any gaps in vinyl or linoleum?
* Are the tile & wood floors properly finished?
Kitchen & Bath
* Do appliances operate, and are they the right color?
* Are cabinet doors flush and shelves level?
* Do all faucets and other plumbing fixtures work properly?
Basement & Attic / Extras
* Are there any indications of leaks?
* Are there any cracks in the foundation walls or floors?
* Does heating, cooling and water-heating units work properly?
