Stratford

Haiku

Kids skate on hard snow
Slide, slip, fall, get pulled around -
Put on antic show

Undulating lift
Bright glint of sun on ripples -
Quick dip of bobber

A blur, a quick thud,
The shattering of windshield -
A ten pointer prize.

A dash, a flash, flash
Panic screeching of the brakes
The bang of a gun

Pink streak in the East
Whiff of fresh morning air
Trill of whip-poor-will

Brown leaves on the ground
Gay, dancing, swirling snow flakes
Spread a white blanket.

Bare branches transform
To a bounteous bird tree -
Grackles southward bound.

Oregon sunshine
Then suddenly soft warm drops
The scurry of feet.

A huge ball of fire
Rolls across the floor - hearts stop
The crack of Thunder!

Dip to the gully
Blinding mist of minute gnats
This hot humid eve.

Twilight wending down
Young hare darting playfully
From the cactus growth.
