Haiku

Bobbing here and there
Speckled Starlings' whitened beaks
Gleaming in my yard

Sweet scent in the air
Snow flakes falling this Spring day
From the apple trees.

Fireflies signaling
In the stifling evening air
Trigger glows in grass

Myriads of gems
Sparkle on the soft blanket
Of woolly white snow.

Bare bushes sporting
Soft balls of cotton, near my
Frosty window pane.

A yellow carpet
Mingled with brown lies under
The baring maple

Free from encasement,
Crinkled wings slowly unfold -
Huge Cecropia!

Sunlit branches white,
Sharp against bright azure sky,
Black on glaring snow!

Shrunken leaves quiver
Their points like stars rise and drift
Daintily to earth

Trees covered with snow
Look like fruit trees in blossom
Cotton balls on hedge

Dog retreats on box
Goose insists on preening hair
Much to dog's dislike
