3/26/97 I am a senior at Stratton College in Wiscosin. One day I was late to one of my classes and (I was feeling rather happy and gay)I noticed this older lady (extremly older) walking around and looking in windows. I asked could I help her and she began telling me that she was tired and asked me for a ride home. For a minute I stood there and stared at her, like she was crazy. I started to tell her no, but I thought about it and decided that I could help her out. She only lived two blocks from the school, hence she walked several blocks to another grocery store and one was right down the street from her house. I felt good knowing that I helped someone that was in need. That was my random act of kindness. And I just thought that I would share it with everyone.

3/11/97 For Christmas in last year (1996), a large group of people I work with collected almost $2000 to sponsor a Christmas party for some foster kids. Not only did we raise the funds, but we did the shopping for toys (85-90 toys!), helped with the party, and my boss and his wife volunteered to be Santa and Mrs. Santa at the party. We had face painting tables and craft tables for the kids to make things. I am not really a 'kid' person, but I was in tears most of the day, as were my co-workers. The foster parents were thanking all of us, as they left the party, for all that we had done. I think that those of us who went to the party and got to see the faces of these children got WAY more from them than they got from us.

2/28/97 At the grocery store, an older woman walking down the aisle was trying to read the ingredents from the back of a package. I could tell she was having problems because she forgot her glasses. I read the box for her. She put it back on the shelf...too much salt!

2/28/97 On this past Valentine's Day, I didn't have a guy to go out with. My best friends decided to go out. We really didn't have an agenda that night, so we knew we'd end up at the coffee house like we always do. Before we went, we stopped at the grocery store. We bought two roses and ten carnations. We stopped at the restaurant that two of our guy friends were working at and layed the roses on their cars. They still don't know who left them there. We took the carnations to the coffee house and handed them out to many of the people there, even if we didn't know them. I don't know what effect it had on these people, but it didn't hurt us.

1/2/97 One day I met this beautiful woman and I asked her out to take ballroom dancing. You may not think this is an act of kindness but it is, because she took a chance on me.

1/7/97 Just a little thing...When my son and I take walks through the neighborhood, I take along a couple plastic grocery bags. While we enjoy our walk we pick trash. It not only teaches him how to care for our environment, but other people see us doing this and thank us for caring enough to take the time :)
