July 1996

7/31/96    At my school, there is a teacher who has a kind word for everyone.  She doesn't make any special cases and is always kind.  That is truly the greatest thing a person can do.

7/29/96    On the tollway if the toll is 40 cents, pay $4.00 instead--it's not that much money but it pays for 9 other cars behind you.  Now that makes a difference!

7/27/96    Once, it was getting really cold outside, and I saw a homeless girl whithout a coat. Since I had two, I gave her the one I was wearing.

7/23/96    For suggestions:  My son's day care is in the building where I work, so he carpools with me and two other women.  Everyday, Ms Jill asks my son "Who did you make smile today?"  My son, who is three years old, will name someone he played with or his teacher or even ME!
Even the little things mean so much to people.  My son is only three, but he has his own little Random Acts that make others feel better, including his proud Mom.

7/20/96    I ran out of gas on the interstate with my family.  We were stuck for four hours on a Sunday night, until a carload of vacationing Mormons stopped.  They drove 30 miles to the nearest town and drove back with gas for us.

7/18/96    My friends and I were in Paris this summer.  We just barely caught the night train to Amsterdam.  After we got on, we tried to get a sleeper car on the train, because it was an overnight journey.  It turned out that the conductor did not take credit cards, and we didn't have enough French Francs between us.  As we were getting ready to go to the regular cars, the man next to us offered to lend us the money until the next morning when we could get some money off our credit cards.  Because he was also from the states, we offered to pay him U.S. currency that night.  He said he could wait.  The next morning we got off the train and looked for him.  He was ahead of us by a hundred yards.  We hurried to catch up to him, but he turned the corner into the busy train terminal, and we lost him.  He never got the 40 dollars he lent us.

7/18/96    A couple of days ago, my car broke down in the middle of a main street in my town.  My emergency flashers were broken, and a person I didn't even know pulled up behind me and turned hers on and stayed with me until I had fixed the problem.  I was surprised at the generousity of the woman who donated not only her time, but also her

7/14/96    I was camping in January in Algonquin Provincial Park, Canada. It was so cold that the fuel for our camping stove froze. When we got up the next morning, my friend's car wouldn't start. We didn't know what to do, but this kindly old couple who was camping near us helped us out. The older gentleman tried to boost our battery and also dumped two containers of gas line de-icer into the gas tank for us. The older lady gave us hot chocolate. I believe that if these people hadn't helped us out, my friend would have gotten an even worse case of Hypothermia.
The Park Ranger also helped us out, by letting us stay in the Ranger's building while we waited for CAA to come help us out. We don't even know their names, but these people made me feel that there is hope for the human race after all. Thanks.

7/14/96    I lent my parents $90,000 so they could buy their dream house because my dad will probably die soon from a terminal illness.

7/13/96    I was standing on line at a very busy grocery store buying one bouquet of flowers for my mother.  There was an older couple in front of me who had an entire cart of groceries.  The man saw that I was only buying one item and offered to let me go ahead of them. I was so shocked to find someone you cares about others that I walked around the rest of the day with a smile.

7/13/96    A few months ago my daughter was at a friends birthday party at the discovery zone.  It was a quiet night with almost noone there except for the kids at the arcade.  We must have been the last party of the evening.  I was walking to the soda fountain when I noticed at a table there was someone's wallet.  It was open, and you could see numerous credit cards, and there was cash sticking out plus a few dollars on the table.  I noticed a man and his son at the checkout so I figured it was his.  When he left and there was noone else around, I waited a minute or two to see if someone was going to claim it.  When noone came I got in touch with the manager who then notified the owner of the wallet.  We were in a mall, I couldn't believe someone could leave without their wallet.  I was glad someone else didn't get it.  I had my wallet stolen once and it isn't fun.

7/12/96    My fiance and I attended a hockey game this winter and when we entered the forum there was a woman in her 50's begging for money. The hockey game ended up going into overtime and was not over until 2am, when we left the forum that same lady was there asking for spare change. I thought as many other people behind me did, "if she is going to stand out here all this time she deserves something" so I gave her 5$ and felt very good about it. P.S. She was wearing a sign around her neck that said "Mother of Four Children", who knows she may have gone to drink a bottle of scotch while we were watching the game and maybe never had kids but it made me feel good, and that's all that matters.

7/10/96    I was walking down the street and this lady was getting her groceries out of her car and she also had a small baby in the front seat. So I asked her if I could carry her groceries and she could get her kid and not leave it alone.

7/9/96    My dad picked up a hitch-hiker from Rowanda whos family had been killed in the war.  Of course he didn't know that at the time, but after talking to him he found this out, and was very willing to help.  So my father got the man a lawyer who could help get him citizenship to America.  He also made him dinner.

7/7/96    As a random act of kindness, someone has written in a helpful hint for those who just don't know what to do about a special someone:
I wanted to ask a girl out but didn't know how to go about it!  This is what I came up with:  I rang the florist in her area and purchased a YELLOW ROSE (Guys.... red roses are to forward for a first date) then I asked the florist if they could purchase a chicken and mayo sandwich on white bread with salt and pepper from a local cafe and deliver it with the rose. On the card I wrote "here's lunch...how about dinner?"  Well as always life's not perfect, she didn't like white bread or mayo.  But I did get my date, who is now my girl friend.

7/2/96    I am the one who does this homepage.  Someone wrote in a suggestion, but it wasn't an idea for a random act of kindness.  Instead,  Elizabeth Brunner wrote in to help me out on my misspellings.  I really do appreciate her help.  I try and fix some of the simple spelling and grammatical mistakes.  I really do appreciate her help and encourage others to help out!  Thank you all for your entries and your comments.  Keep it up.

Suggestions

7/13/96    When your in a clothing store and you see how neatly the clothes are folded, don't pick up each shirt and leave it sitting all crumpled up.  Refold it and tell the sales person to have a nice day!

7/1/96    If you see a neighbor that has a lot of newspapers laying on the driveway just waiting for someone to realize they are out of town, take just a minute to hide the newspapers behind a bush so a casual passerby won't get any ideas.
