Houdini is a two year old bearded collie, who I rescued while on vacation in Greece in December. He was rummaging in the garbage, eating left-over Greek salad when I found him. Having three bearded collies at my home in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) and being a person who loves the breed, I couldn't leave the Island without finding a place for him to live. Luckily, I found a vet in Messaria, Santorini who has a shelter for stray dogs. She gives them food, healthcare, and attempts to find them homes. She flys many of the dogs to dog shelters in Germany and other European countries.

Houdini needs a home. If you are living in Germany, France, or another European country that can receive a dog from Santorini, Greece, please let me know. Houdini is a sweet, loving slate-colored bearded collie with white markings. He is a warm, loving beardie who needs a home. He has cataracts in both eyes, but he still has vision. My veterinary consultants have told me that the cataracts could be the result of the poor nutrition which comes from living on the streets as a stray.

I do not know who brought Houdini to the Island, or who left him as a stray, but he needs your help. Your life will be blessed if you adopt him. He is a very special beardie!

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Houdini has a new home! A couple in Germany has adopted Houdini. After only one day on the web, Houdini generated many responses -- For everyone who's heart was touched, Thanks!

Houdini recently was flown to Germany to be with his new family. A friend in Germany volunteered to fly to Santorini to pick Houdini up.

When I suggested that it would be a good idea to visit Santorini for a day or two, our friend said "I don't want anything to cause Houdini to have to wait anymore!". What a heartwarming and dedicated person!

If you feel as I do about this wonderful breed, please bookmark this page and check back for updates about this wonderful vet in Greece and the incredible work she is doing. I'll give her credit when I get her permission. There are several corporations that are also helping out that should be mentioned (after I get permission) as well.

Do you have your own page that features beardies? If so, you can help Houdini even if you can't adopt him. Add a link to this page at http://www.mindspring.com/~mazie on your page.

If you will send me the address of your page via e-mail, I'll add a link back to your page.
