Frequently Asked Questions

Who Is Paragon Subscription Services ? Paragon Subscription Services was founded on April 5, 1995 in efforts to offer people around the United States with an extraordinary opportunity to earn and save money on a product they are already very familiar with...... Magazines! With over 500 million subscriptions sold each year, it's actually hard to find someone who does not already read or subscribe to one. And unlike with any other business around, most everyone is already familiar with the content of specific magazines through newstands and direct advertisings by the major publishers. As a national clearinghouse for over a thousand magazine selections, Paragon Subscription Services can set up just about anyone as a magazine subscription agent FOR FREE! As an agent, you will reep the rewards of being an insider to the magazine subscription industry. You will have the opportunity to sell subscriptions (new and renewals) to thousands of people across the U.S. and make huge profits. Or you may simply subscribe to your favorite magazines at our special low, agent prices. As a registered agent, you are entitled to save up to 90% off the actual retail price of your favorite magazines! And remember, it costs nothing to join our program.

Why might it take 90 days for my customers to receive their first issues as new subscribers, or to see renewal updates on the mailing label?
Most of the hundreds of publishers use just a handful of "fulfillment houses"; business which tabulate and process the millions of orders, and perform the actual sorting and mailing. That takes a lot of time. Additionally, most magazines are printed months in advance, and each printing is pre-allocated only to the amount of subscribers at the actual time of printing. Thus, an order received in March might actually commence in June, as March's issues were already printed back in January. There is little difference in the processing time whether one orders directly through the publisher, or through a clearing house such as Paragon Subscription Services. This mandatory delay time makes it imperative that you submit all orders on hand about once per week!

Why should I encourage my customers to renew their subscriptions early?
For the same reason as above. Nobody wants to miss an issue! Subscribers are much better off renewing at least 3 to 4 months in advance, if they want continued, uninterrupted service. You may accept renewal orders even a year in advance, because besides the benefit of today's low price, the renewal will simply be tacked onto the end of the existing subscription. Customers ordering subscriptions as gifts, must definitely order early, if they wish the recipient(s) to receive the magazines by a specific date!

Sometimes, premiums are offered in TV and Radio ads, for ordering subscriptions. Will my customers receive them as well?
No. These premiums are costly, and their price is covered by the high retail price of the subscription. Many people would rather save money than receive such a premium.

If I have a problem with a subscription, do I contact the publisher?
You may, but Paragon Subscription Services is responsible for your order, so we encourage you to allow us to resolve any problems for you! But please, allow sufficient time - at least 90 to 110 days from the day you mailed your order to us, for a subscription to commence. Your high profit margin is your working capital to handle customers' day to day questions or problems. It's what doing business is all about! If we can help you resolve a problem, please write us with full and complete details. Thank you!

Does PSS have descriptions of the magazines offered?
Yes, the descriptor catalog is located in the 'Update Center for Agents'.

Does PSS have pictures of magazines online that agents could use for their web pages?
Many of the publications we offer have homepages on the internet with a copy of their current magazines and logos. For a listing of them, go to your favorite search engine and do a search for the particular title you are interested in.

Is there a minimum or maximum that I may charge customers for magazines?
The maximum price you may sell a subscription for is the retail price listed in your catalog. The minimum price you may charge for most magazines is 50% of the retail price of the magazine subscription. It is recommended that you charge more than this amount, because you may not be taken seriously by your customers if your prices seem too low.

Does PSS have a catalog online that could be copied and offered to agent customers?
Because each agent has their own method of selling or giving away subscriptions, we do not offer a catalog with prices to sell your magazines at. Since this is your own business, it is appropriate to let you set your own prices. To save you the hassle of rewritting all the titles and issues, you may duplicate the agent catalog we provide you with and replace the remit prices with what you wish to charge your customers.

Do agents need to have e-mail addresses?
Though beneficial, agents do not need to have an e-mail address to become an agent. Agent kits are mailed via USPS for $20 and additional costs apply for updated catalogs. If you have an e-mail address, IT''S ALL FREE! Your startup kit is free. Your updates are free. And you can have all your questions answered for free.

How do agents without e-mail addresses receive updates?
Send $3 to Paragon Subscription Services, PO Box 91533-A190, Pasadena, CA 91109, for a complete catalog and $25 for a full year of 'PARAGON UPDATE' newsletters (these are e-mailed at no charge).

What methods of payment does PSS accept?
Checks, money orders, and checks via e-mail. Credit cards are not accepted at this time.

What is considered to be selling at unauthorized prices, and what are the consequences?
Selling a magazine for less than 50% of the retail price, disobeying a publisher's request, or misrepresenting a publication. The consequence for any such acts is termination of agent status.

How does PSS handle requests for new subscription titles to be added to its current listing?
If we do not have it listed, it is not offered at this time. If you wish to order a magazine that we do not offer, just send us the magazine title and name of the publisher. If we are able to secure a decent agent remit price, we will e-mail the info to you.

What is the difference between the Remit and Retail Price?
The Remit price is what you pay Paragon Subscription Services. The Retail price is the maximum price you may charge for a subscripiton.

How do I advertise magazines?
There is no right or wrong way to advertise. The more innovative you are, the more success you will have. To give you some ideas, agents have sold subscriptions through web pages, on bulletin boards in CompuServe, America Online, Prodigy, through direct e-mails, direct postal mailings, newspapers, and neighborhood flyers.

Who do my customers write their check to?
Have your customers write their checks out to you or your company. Paragon Subscription Services cannot accept checks from your customers. We only accept checks and money orders from our registered agents.

Can I sell subscripitons via telemarketing?
Paragon strongly discourages telemarketing. However, if you wish to sell over the phone, let us know and we will let you know of the publishers who do not permit their titles to be sold over the phone.

Is it necessary to update PSS with my new e-mail and postal address when I change my address?
YES! This is our only way to reach you. If you do not keep us updated with your current address, we will be unable to send you updates, and your account will also be shut down.

What is a Source Code ?
A source code is used for recruiting other agents into our program and helps us track an agent's downline.
If I recruit another person into PSS, how am I compensated?
For each agent you recruit into our agent program, you will be paid $1.00 for each and every subscription that agent places through Paragon. And every year when they renew thos magazines, you will continue to receive commissions for each subscription the order/renew.

Can I sell subscriptions outside of the USA?
At this time agents may only sell within the United States, including Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and all US military bases around the world (APOs). Basically, if you can send a first class letter there for .32 cents, you may sell them a subscription from our catalog.
