...But First, Two Frequently Asked Questions:
1) How much is my old bottle of whiskey worth?
You found a 50 year old bottle of a bourbon no longer made, and it even has the tax label
on it. I would be delighted by such a find too, but I do not suggest selling it.
The best gague on the value of old whiskey I know of is this fact: many have written
to me about wanting to sell old whiskey, but only one has ever written to me about wanting
to buy it. In most (if not all) United States territories, possessions, and states
it is illegal to sell even one bottle of liquor without a license.
I suggest making the bottle opening an event at your next poker or cocktail party--more fun that way.
You can always sell the empty bottle legally, but I have no information on bottle collectors,
except the knowledge that there are people somewhere out there who do collect.
2) I am a distiller. Will you review our whiskey / visit our distillery?
If you are a distiller and want me to review your product or
re-review your product, please write to me and offer to send me
a fifth to sample. I might require a second bottle, perhaps a quart, to make
sure I like it. Chances are I shall not turn down an all-expenses-paid trip
to tour a distillery either. A gift of any product is no guarantee of a
favorable review, and (so far) I have refused all cash payments to review any products or brands.
