Msgr. McClancy Memorial High School is a Catholic school built in 1956 and is conducted by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. It is centrally located between Northern Boulevard and the Grand Central Parkway. It also is easily accessible by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Many students commute by mass transit whether by bus or train. There are buses that run from the train stations to the corner of the school. Very convenient!
This past year the Brothers of the Sacred Heart celebrated their 158th anniversary being on the continent of North America. In addition, they celebrated their 183rd anniversary of existence. They were founded by Father Andre Coindre back in France shortly after the French Revolution. The Brothers landed in Mobile, Alabama, and started their schools in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and into Canada. These schools are still thriving and making a difference in many young peoples' lives.
Msgr. McClancy Memorial High School has a warm and friendly atmosphere. This special quality stems from our small school environment of approximately 500 to 600 students and the qualified faculty. Our faculty consists of Brothers of the Sacred Heart, a priest, religious, lay men and women. Their tireless effort is easily seen by their availability to the students. It is a place where everyone is treated with respect.
There is a faculty of 43 very qualified professionals. There are 3 teachers with their Ph.D. degrees, 22 teachers with their M.A. and 10 teachers who are candidates for their M.A. Presently, there are 8 members of the faculty who are alumni, demonstrating the family atmosphere.
The students are very successful; 100% of the senior students graduate and 94-96% go on to colleges/universities. We have small classes where you will not become a number. Our teacher/students class ratio is 1:13 with an average class size of 25 students per class. The students can graduate with 36 College Credits. These courses include Calculus, Composition and Rhetoric, Business Law, English Literature, Advanced Biology, Painting and Sculpture, and Three Dimensional Design. We have three computer rooms with IBM Pentium computers. Our students can take computer programming courses and there is Internet access throughout the building. We have an exceptional Art Program!
Our students have gone to study at the following colleges/universities: Columbia University, Brown University, University of Pennsylvania, Bucknell University, Cornell University, N.Y.U., Villanova University, Georgetown University, Boston College, Amherst College, St. John's University, Boston University, Manhattan College, University of Florida, University of Virginia, University of North Carolina, Iona College, St. Francis College, Marist College, Adelphi University, Notre Dame University, U.S. Naval Academy, University of Michigan, Syracuse University, Penn State University, Providence College, University of Massachusetts, Florida State University, Hofstra University, Baruch College, etc.
