Course Requirements for Introduction to Philosophy
Course requirements: The purposes of this course are best served by group discussion and class participation. Because of this, you should attend each class with the reading assignments completed and with issues in mind to raise in discussion.
The requirements for this course comprise a midterm, a final and four out-of-classwritings of about 1250 words each week . The writings will be assigned more precisely during the semester. The essays should demonstrate reflection on the materials discussed in class and move towards integrating the ideas and topics into a bigger whole.. (If anyone in this class has any special test-taking or paper-writing needs, please see me as soon as possible to make the appropriate arrangements.)
The grade you receive in the course will be determined as follows:
Each Exam-30%, Weekly writings-40%.
There will be absolutely no make-up assignments of any kind in this class unless I determine that there is a legitimate excuse. A prerequisite for a legitimate excuse is that you either contact me or leave a message with the English Department secretary (x6420) before the assignment is due. I cannot imagine a catastrophe so extreme that you cannot get a message to me yet which leaves you still concerned with making up the missed work. I do not announce the time or dates of quizzes or homework assignments beforehand, so be careful.
