Public Service Extra Credit Option

You may also earn up to 10 points extra credit on your final grade (i.e., one letter grade) for the course by completing 30 hours of approved volunteer public service work during the semester.  To get the credit you must write a reflective paper of at least 1000 words explaining the impact that the activity has had on you as it relates to the themes of the course.  It is the student’s responsibility to identify and contact a public service organization and arrange a volunteer schedule.  Public service projects must be approved by the professor, and students should turn in a sheet of paper listing their name, volunteer organization, a tentative work schedule and description of responsibilities no later than Monday, February 6, 2006.  Please note that your volunteer activity must be non-for-profit (i.e. not with a business).  You may do volunteer work through a church if it is service to the outside community, but you may not count work that is strictly internal to the church (i.e. nursery, office), and you may not count evangelical or proselytizing activities.
