Research Interests:

Professor Jones's primary research interest is Blacks and Southern politics. His publications have appeared in numerous scholarly journals including, National Political Science Review, Review of Black Political Economy, Dædalus, Social Science Quarterly, Annals of the Academy of Social and Political Science, Journal on Political Repression, Journal of Social And Behavioral Sciences, and the Indian Journal of Political Sciences. He (along with Lucius Barker and Katherine Tate) is coauthor of a textbook, African Americans and the Political System. New Jersey: Prentice Hall, 1998. (The text is currently in its fourth edition).

Professor Jones is active with a number of professional organizations, including the National Conference of Black Political Scientists (he served as its founding president, 1969).

Teaching Interests

Professor Jones offers courses in African American Political Philosophy, Research and Methodology, Philosophy of Social Sciences, and American Politics.
