Avondale ESOL Summer Camp
Language Learning and Vacation Fun

Cooperative language learning through "Peanut Math" in Joan Evans' 4th and 5th grade class.

What is the Avondale ESOL Camp?

As the culmination of our year-long participation in Project SEED: Site-Based ESOL Endorsement in DeKalb, we held a summer camp for English learners at Avondale Elementary School, in Avondale Estates in the DeKalb County Schools.

Our goals?

Our Staff?

Six soon-to-be endorsed ESOL teachers and their teacher:
Renee Smith, Heather Knight, Betsy Eppes, Joan Evans, Lisa Hall, Joyicle Copeland and Mary Lou McCloskey

Our Theme?

Because our students are new to this state, we chose to plan around the them, "Georgia On My Mind."  Lesson plans included:

Studying Georgia Geography in Ms. Hall's class.

Making (and eating) peach ice cream with Mrs. Smith.

Learning about apples, corn, wheat, peanuts and other products of Georgia in Miss Knight's class.

Making, and talking and writing about "Peanut People" with Ms. Eppes.

Learning about the five regions of the state with Mrs. Copeland and Mr. Bahal.
