About 15 years back I was involved in producing an industrial show. The producer was a woman I despised for a variety of reasons -- not the least of which was her belief that the quickest way to the top was on her back (a practice she indulged at every opportunity). I was responsible for scripting the show.
One day she handed me a piece of crapola and said to incorporate it into the show book. I read it, turned up my nose and barged in to tell my boss just how bad it was. He listened patiently for fifteen minutes as I tore her hallowed words to pieces. Then he said, "Ms. X didn't do it. I wrote that piece. Be careful what you criticize because you never know whose baby it is."
I scurried back to my office and hid for two days.
That was the single best piece of advice I ever received regarding writing/producing media of any kind. FWIW, if you aren't prepared to say it to the author/producer/director's face, don't say it.
