LOONEY by the Dept. Of Interior Commissioner at PINEY township, CARROLL, Arkansas. In this document, a sworn statement is provided on behalf of Sarah Looney by: Mary A. Looney and Nancy Jester (spelling?) The statement says: Macaja (spelling?) Hendricks is her Grandfather (supposedly Cherokee). Martha Hamby/Handby (nee Hendricks) is her Grandmother. Frank (spelling?) Looney is her husband. Mary and Nancy swear they've known Sarah and family all their lives, and that they were/are Cherokee citizens who lived with the Indians in Tennessee until about 1830 when they relocated westward to settle in Arkansas. They state that Sarah is the wife of Frank (spelling?) Looney and together they have five female children: Ella/Elda Looney, age 12 Malinda Looney, age 10 Mary Looney, age 8 Broca Looney, age 5 Elina/Elena/Elana Looney, abt 6 days old Mary A. Looney states she is 70? years old Nancy Jester (spelling?) states she is 67? years old S.H. Mayes, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation responds to the application via tribal lawyers on 9/17/1896 saying "...Martha Hamby/Handby ... is not ... and has not been a citizen of the Cherokee Nation." ==============================================================
