Griffith 45 Sarah 35 John 18 Wm. 16 1880 household 421 in Farmington, transcript page 113 Charles Griffith 52 Sarah 49 William 24 I don't see John Griffith in 1880. He is discussed in Davie County Heritage articles 729, by I.E. Winfrey Jr., and 730, by Lillian Sheek Hauser See these articles for photographs and additional information on his family. Sarah was his step-sister. Both articles say that they eloped; article 730 gives the story that they told their parents they were going to pick wild strawberries in May 1849. There is no marriage record in the Davie Co. volume edited by Nancy Murphy, not surprising for an elopement since there would have been no bond filed. There is a burial in the Taylor family cemetery near Farmington of Mary Amanda, daughter of "C.D. and S.L. Griffith", died 26 Nov 1850, aged 6 days. I don't find another C. and S. Griffith in my files. Could this be their daughter? Sarah's age in the 1850 census is given as 17; birth year in Davie County Heritage article 729 as 1832, in article 730 as 1824. Since her parents didn't marry until 1828, I am going with the 1832 date here. This is consistent with the cemetery record. The cemetery records book gives her name as Griffin rather than Griffith, but indicates that she is the wife of C.F., who is also buried there, as Griffith. Last Modified: 19 Jan 2001
