Saunders, e-mail 8/19/98, says he married first Ellendor Thomas in 1819, second Elizabeth (Betsy) Saunders, widow of Reuben Foot, in 1857. Elizabeth married George Richards in 1867. In 1850 he has the following slaves: mulatto female age 40 black male age 24 black male age 22 black female age 15 mulatto male age 13 mulatto female age 10 mulatto male age 8 black male age 6 black female age 4 mulatto female age 1 black male age 8/12 Elizabeth Saunders is named as Elizabeth Foote in James Saunders' will 1850. 1860 Davie County census, transcript page 95, household 749; Smith Grove district Eliz. Harris 34 Wm. Foot 12 Jane Foot 9 Elen Harris 3 Sarah E. Harris 1 Eliza White 35 She married George W. Richards on 3 Jul 1867 1870 Davie County census, household 41 in Farmington district, transcript page 57 George Richards 52 Elizabeth 45 Jackson 20 Arnetha 15 Elinor 14 Sallie 11 All the children are listed as Richards, but it would appear that Elinor/Ellen and Sarah/Sally are her Harris children. I don't see either William or Jane Foote in the 1870 index. However, there is a William F. Foote 5 Apr 1849 - 17 Oct 1926, buried Smith Grove United Methodist, who could be him. There is a Jennie Foot who married Walter Taylor Jr. on 24 Sep 1868. Walter Taylor 1843-1890 is also buried at Smith Grove. I don't see any of the Richards family in the 1880 index. There is a Sallie Harris age 21, living with Tillet and Ellen Wilson, listed as Tillet's sister. I suspect that this is John T. Willson who married Ellen P. Harris on 10 Oct 1875. He was 23, she was 18, which fits for her to be Ellen or Elinor from this family. Sallie would therefore be her sister, not his. Last Modified: 20 Jan 2001
