DeKalb County
A new tree ordinance
was unanimously adopted by the DeKalb County Commissioners on
February 9th, 1999.
Major victories
included:
- Must protect
at least 120 inches or 25% (which ever is less) of existing trees
per acre in residential developments.
- Tree Surveys
and a Tree Protection plan must be submitted as part of the development
permits process.
- Residential
developments will require a minimum of five trees to be planted
within each lot (up to 28 on larger lots).
- No cutting in
floodplains.
- Non residential
and multifamily developments must contain 30 units per acre of
existing/replacement trees (e.g. 9 existing trees, or 75 2"
caliper trees)
- Any tree designated
in the plan to be saved which is negligently damaged shall be
replaced with 6" caliper equal to 2 times the unit value
of the tree removed.
