Add N to (X) - the Gribbs picked this one, and I have to admit that there is a certain mutant element at work here, wouldn't surprise me if some of the thinktree people are involved with this. Remember the early 70's British ITC show: ufo? Imagine that as music.... Aerialist - quirky lounge but not lounge BLOCK: "..the big house, must burn.." nuff said"; oops, neel@iota just told me that it's PINK not BIG, my duh... by divine right - happy healing music, good for the head space, and they ROCK!!! Here's my amazon review: By Divine Right is one of those rare occasions in music where pretentiousness and blatant manipulation are replaced with simple honesty and experimental expressionism. Wonderful pop structuring toying with inner spiritualism that makes one want to prove that yes elizabeth, you can dance to rock'n roll. The elegance of "She Knows" and "Uncontaminable" close a joyful disc filled with gems "l.d.s.c." (long distance soul communication) and "Fearless", containing the essence of much of the hook-full appeal:"Take me in, your heart..." Every song takes one on a little journey, and delivers you back, anticipating the next vacation. Sasha & John Digweed

Dr. Oculopulous - white boy college rap over funky music

el Quattro: psychopunkabilly

Feist - 1999 Monarch CD0023
It's going to be real hard not to fall in love with Leslie with this.  Not only is she awefully cute and really cool to talk to, but this is a pretty, pretty disc; especially songs One Year a.d., Flight #303,  The Mast, and New Torch.  Beautiful voice and sweet harmonies and songs.

Getaway People - swedish people...nuf said? Alternative Lo-Fi, Futuristic Funk And Soul-Powered Hooks (hot songs: She Gave Me Love and Chocolate. --- critic plans to actually listen to the disk today review forthcoming.

g133k: Black Sabbath meets the Pixies; "a strange cross between Cream and fireHose" -Kevin Johnson

ghost symbol lo fi, one mic, one take

The Haggard - Get ready to rock and scream and if they catch you yelling, you're going up to be their go-go dancer. Emily and sts will probably kick my ass for filing this under H, even though they are the sweetest to talk to.

Greg Howard - jazzy experimental Chapman Stick music, phenomenal

Industrial Tepee - besides the obvious dig that these guys are I.T., "groove queen of the 21st century" and "viva las nowhere" ok?
While they were setting up, the G-hut sound was some ambient trance and the bass and drummer filled the spaces with tight funk and mayhem before sound check.  Tom joined them and they mic'ed up while Bob was floating around like some flakin roadie.  When they started the show, Bob plugs in his electric un checked and they jam out the show; so he was just ranging the sound characteristics of the room.
Between sound check and show, Tom and Bob were talking about Miles and Buddy Rich and other cool stuff.  Don't be afraid of the I word, its only a word.

Jim's Big Ego - psychofolk Leftfield - bizareness and fun Lust for Jadies - oh fuck it the bassist is a friend of mine http://www.lustforjadies.com (check out Yearbook 1997-1998 w/Tim Johnston)

Martin Blank indie rock studio garage

Morris: ok, Mike has retooled as an indie rawk throwdown, MOReRISe is definitely a show to check

Out Patients - young kids doing metal again...

            disco: Day Pass - 1998

the Pillows - J-Rock at its best: indie, noisy, rocky, great melodies, especially when you have no idea what they're saying!

Phaser - dc local, "Slow Burn", that about says it all.

Plastic Ears - palatable push-and-shove groove with phat beats and Zeppelin flair...

Poem Rocket - artsy and pretentious and actually pretty good...and don't forget "wild-eyed angst expressed through melodic tension"; the Shaker song is a must for anyone not astute enough to be involved in a conversation

R1SE: house band for the Crow movie and tv series, at least they should be

Rhudebago bass and drum from N'Orleans that I've seen blow 5 piece bands off the stage. Molly and Ty rock

Snaggletooth midgets ROCK!

Ted's Wrecking Crew - Jerry Lee Lewis and Bob Dylan had a kid...

thinktree:all I can say is that the hottest dj in Richmond, the BUZZ's, now defunct WBZU, Enzo Alamari, passed me a tape of these guys when he was knocking around DC spinning at Broad St. and the Spy Club, synth based experimental poetry

transistor sound & lighting co. - Vik Recordings, BMG 1998 74321-51396-2 Winnipeg band kicks all of Seattle's @$$!!!

Ursula Major - 1998 Miasma Records MR8001  good aggressive poppy punk

Common Confusions - 2002; Penny's no longer with the band, but in her place is a strong bassist and Ariel who can really belt it out

4609 N. 20th St.
Arlington Va 22207
703.524.6236

Visual Audio Sensory Theater (VAST) - Elektra 1998 62173-2  artsy and refined and raw, a near religious experience

Music for People - 2000 Elektra, eh...
