SCOTT BAKULA is best-known for his five-year stint on the innovative
television series "Quantum Leap." His portrayal of time traveler Sam
Beckett earned legions of loyal fans as well as significant critical
acclaim. Consistently recognized for his work in a variety of mediums, Mr.
Bakula makes a welcome return to television this fall starring in the new
CBS series "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." The only leap he will be taking for this
show, however, is from series star to executive producer.
"Mr & Mrs. Smith" stars Bakula as a dashing and enigmatic agent for
a mysterious organization known as The Factory, which specializes in
industrial espionage. Code-named 'Mr. Smith,' he finds himself matching
wits with a 'Mrs. Smith,' who is decidedly not his wife, but an elusive and
equally skilled agent. The series marks only the first of two of Mr.
Bakula's projects coming in the new season. He also stars in the new
television film, "The Bachelor's Baby." These shows mark the inaugural
efforts of Bakula's BPI Productions.
Returning to the big screen, Mr. Bakula lends both his acting and
singing talents to Hanna-Barbera's animated musical *Cats Don't Dance*. In
his animation debut, Mr. Bakula is the voice of 'Danny,' a spunky cat from
the Midwest who comes to Hollywood to "claw his way to the top." *Cats
Don't Dance* features songs by Randy Newman and is slated for release during
summer of 1997.
Bakula's performance in "Quantum Leap" brought him four Golden Globe
nominations and one Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series, in
addition to four consecutive Emmy Award nominations. Audiences embraced
Bakula's performance, and he was honored an unprecedented five times by the
Viewers for Quality Television. Today, "Quantum Leap" remains in
syndication around the world. There is also a "Quantum Leap" recording
which features songs performed by Bakula in several episodes of the series.
Mr. Bakula has won praise for his work in a variety of feature film
roles. He recently starred in the supernatural thriller *Lord of
Illusions*, written and directed by Clive Barker. His additional film
credits inclued *My Family,* produced by Francis Ford Coppola; *The Color of
Night, * opposite Bruce Willis; and the psychological thriller, *A Passion
to Kill.* He made his feature film debut in 1990 starring opposite Kirstie
Alley in the comedy *Sibling Rivalry,* directed by Carl Reiner.
Born in St. Louis, Mr. Bakula moved to New York in 1976 where he had
immediate success on the stage. In 1988, he was honored with a Tony
nomination for his starring role in the Broadway musical *Romance/Romance.*
He had earlier made his Broadway debut as Joe DiMaggio in *Marilyn: An
American Fable.* His other theater credits include the critically acclaimed
off-Broadway and Los Angeles productions of *Three Guys Naked From the Waist
Down* and the Los Angeles and Boston productions of *Nite Club Confidential.*
Mr. Bakula has previously joined Carol Burnett as a special guest in
her television special, "Men, Movies, and Carol." He makes his Hollywood
Bowl debut at these concerts.
