Spending Too Much Money On the Net?

AOL users--are you spending too much money on the Internet?

AOL is great for dipping your toes in the Internet waters (as well as for it's own AOL services)
but when you start to get serious about the 'Net, it's time for something a little cheaper.
(save your AOL $$$ for AOL's own internal boards, chats, and services)

How to tell if you are spending too much money on the 'Net on AOL

If you are spending more than 8 and a half hours using the Internet per month ($25), you can probably get internet access in your area for less.
However, this can get rather complex.
You can--
  • Buy one of those internet setup kits that only connect you to certain nationwide providers
(usually the ones with limited usage and extra hourly costs or telephone fees.)

  • Buy a book on setting it up yourself (most of them only explain one certain set of software and certain internet providers, again).

  • Find one of the internet providers that will supply you with
  • pre-configured software, which may or may not work with your system, or
  • someone who will come to your house and set you up for $99

  • Sign up with an internet provider on your own, by
  • searching out the most local providers,
  • checking whether there is a local dialup number in your calling area,
  • finding out the necessary IP addresses and such,
  • finding the software,
  • setting up the stack and scripts, configuring everything...

  • Many areas now offer unlimited internet access for a flat monthly rate.
  • I don't work for any of them, but I have experience in seeking them out and setting them up
