The Love Letters News page had non-Glendale area related news and updates relating to the show, reception, and dinner. However, News has now moved to the Links page

Current 5 day weather forecast for L.A. area

For those of you visiting the L.A area to attend Love Letters, here is a round-up of some of the area info we have been able to obtain to date.
Thanks to many Leapers and Scott fans for contributing some great links.

Getting to L.A.

For those who haven't made their plane reservations yet,
One cheaper way of getting to LA (in the U.S.) is:
1-800-FLYCHEAP

Travel Insurance can be obtained from Travel Guard, among others.
(The first time I used them, my airline went out of business and I got stuck in the hospital in Tucson with pneumonia. They paid the two extra days hotel, food and car rental, and now they even cover you for airline default)

Airports
Here are the websites for LAX (Los Angeles International) and Burbank Aiport.
Terminal maps and other info can be found here.

Ground Transit
A independant source (a friend of mine from L.A. who traves a lot) recommends PrimeTime Shuttle if you need transit from the airport throughout the L.A. area.
See Ground Transit, for their number, and more ideas

Getting Around L.A.
Athough there is some public transit in L.A., most likely you will need to rent a car if you plan to sightsee.
The L.A Times site Getting Around page has more information on getting around L.A. by all modes of transportation.
For maps and driving directions, visit mapquest.com before you leave.

LA and Burbank maps

A map of the L.A freeway system, including LAX (airport) Burbank Airport, Theater Location, and various tourist locations, circled and marked.

A somewhat closer view of Glendale, with approximate theater location, in reference to the 134 Freeway.

Glendale Online's Visitor site, with info on transit, dining, and hotels

The Beeline, local shuttle bus routes in Glendale (no timetables are listed, but there is a phone number)

A street map of Glendale, including the location of the Alex Theater and Glendale Galleria mall.
Note the location of the 134 Freeway for reference purposes.

The hotels page has another street map of the city, including, obviously, hotel locations.

The Theater

The Alex Film Society* has revamped their website in the past couple of weeks.
Please check their site for very nice pictures of the seating area, terrace, mezzanine with bar area (where the reception will be held, unless it gets to be too many people), and a seating chart.
* This link is not associated with the Alex Theatre, a city owned facility, but is owned by the Alex Film Society.

Ticketing (May 28)

The last time I spoke to Bonny Gibson, around May 10, she told me there were still "20 to 25" tickets left in the Leaper section.

Glendale Theater District

The Glendale Theater District has a great website, (thanks Janey!) which includes restaurant listings (with descriptions), shops, and maps to the restaurants and theater. Parking lots are also shown.

Parking lots near the theater are also shown on this map

Dinner info has been moved to the News Page
Please check there for updates and changes

Hotels

When I first talked to Bonny Gibson, of the McCready foundation, she told me that the corporate rate at the local Best Western (I think that is the Golden Key, below), is $99 per night. She said it was a "group rate," if that is any help.

She also recommended the Red Lion Hotel.
The Red Lion has a special deal with Project Quantum Leap fan club for reduced rates. Please check their site for all the details.
These are the prices my friend Eleiece got from the Red Lion as well as some helful info.
A Deluxe room with 2 double beds for June 11th through June 14th. Check out time is at noon every day - no exceptions.
She mentioned the weekend special of $99.00 per night to the reservations clerk; she checked on it and advised E. that it was only for 2 adults occupying a room. With 4 adults in the room, the price goes up to $129.00 a night. The tax is 10%
They also offer a courtesy shuttle to and from the airport. When you arrive at the airport, go to a white courtesy phone and tell them where you are (Burbank Airport) and what your destination is (Red Lion Hotel). When you're ready to check out, just call down to the front desk to let them know.
The phone number there is 818 956-5466. According to the description I read in my book--this is a very luxurious hotel.

For others, check out Best Western's web site
The Pasadena Royale offers Continental Breakfast, two queen beds, and a refrigerator for about $84 (less if you have a discount). It is at the further end of Pasadena, though, if you are wanting to stay close to the theater, that wouldn't be the place.

More detail on the Glendale Best Western
The best rate I am seeing is $99 for 2 queen size beds, with Micro Refridge, VCR, Coffee Maker, and Continental Breakfast.
Reservations can be made online.

For those on a really tight budget, or renting a car, The Motel 6 in Arcadia is 47.99 per night on weekends (plus %10 tax--total $52.80) for four people in two double beds. The weekday rate is $43.99 plus tax. They have no VCR's but allow you to hook one up if you bring one.
Disclaimer--I haven't stayed at this one since 1980 and I don't know if the neighborhood has gone downhill since then
For approximate distance to the theater (and route map), see the LA Freeway map

Area info (stores, video, etc)

This is where to get any info on shopping and services (even hospitals) near the Best Western in Glendale.
Just click on the "change location" link if you are staying at another hotel, and type in the address of your hotel
Fannish necessities:
Blockbuster Video (I once rented a VCP (player) from them (in Burbank anyway)
Kinko's (it's the big K on the map--the star is the Best Western)
225 N Brand Blvd, Glendale (USA)
(818) 500-1811

Tourism and Sightseeing
Overall LA area tourist info
The LA Convention and Visitors Bureau site is chock-full of info, and tourist ideas.
For those wishing to see Hollywood type things, check this one out. Of course, other LA locations are included as well.
L.A. Times--Destination L.A.--another great site on visiting L.A.
Santa Monica's website
Some Hollywood sightseeing ideas
The Glendale website visitors information page (restaurants, hotels, transit, etc.) is very nice.
This site also has a link to the Glendale Galleria Mall which has its own website
Another Glendale Visitors site
For more LA area info, I recommend the book Access Los Angeles by Richard Saul Wuhrman. I've used it for years. It has great maps, including the freeway map above, on its inside cover, and attractions, accomodations, transit, dining, etc, divided by area, color-coded, and numbered on a map. It's very easy to handle and to use. It should be $19 if you pick it up at your local bookstore.
