Dean Party - June 12
For all those going to LA, Cathy A'Hearn will be hosting a Dean Party, Saturday night. It will start after dinner at Clancy's, and continue during the play as well as afterwards (in case any of you wish to attend both, this looks like a typical Leaper "all nighter" :-) )
Cathy has a room at the Red Lion and will be passing out flyers or invitations etc. at Clancy's with her room number on them. Feel free to stop by. [her party--if you are planning to come to dinner and haven't informed the organizers, please e-mail Pam so we can adjust the size of our reservation]. If you miss her at the restaurant, call the Red Lion [818 956-5466], and ask for her room.

Dinner information
Please note location change...
We are currently planning a dinner get-together before the show, on Saturday night at 5/5:30 PM at Clancy's Restaurant. (see explanation below)
The purpose of the get-together is to have a chance for all of us, who are coming in from the world over, to get to meet and talk to each other in a more relaxed atmosphere than the reception (i.e. Scott won't be there :-) )
Our original reservation was "lost" by Jax restaurant, who had told us that they "couldn't put us in the book" as the book for June was "not out yet," and to "call back on June 1st," but that they would make a note of it.
Well, they lost the note.
As they had already booked Bonny's party and one other, there was no way they could put us all together, so they referred us to their sister restaurant, Clancy's, also within walking distance of the theater, but larger.
I did check several other restaurants in the area (I'm not looking forward to my phone bill), but they either couldn't handle a party our size or were out of business.
We now have a reservation for 25. We can adjust the number later, and will firm up all the details the beginning of June.
The menu is mostly fish and seafood (sorry) but there are two steak dishes, one chicken dish (with bearnaise sauce) and they will serve pasta without seafood if you ask. (I checked) You can order side orders of vegatables, or a Ceaser salad as well.
For the early bird you must be seated by 5:00 and it consists of a two-for-one (find a neighbor to share with you--we will be there at 5). For those of you on a tighter "pre-show primping" schedule, 5:30 will be fine.
The restaurant is still two blocks from the theater (two streets behind the theater). There is a map at the Glendale theater site.
The restaurant can also do drinks and hors d'ouevres. For those who can't eat... : )
The motif is seafood, with sawdust on the floors and anchors on the walls, etc.
Although it was actually not us who messed up, we do apologize about Jax.
The new menus are located here. (sorry for the skewing...)

Menu page 2
please check these ASAP as this web server keeps losing my files (they are still there, but no one can see them but me) You can e-mail me when they disappear
I have made a map with times and phone numbers, suitable for printing. (Please don't call the number for Pam and Mel until June 10 as it is our hotel and we won't be there till around 8PM)
If you are interested in joining us, please add your name to the thread on the message board, or contact Mellian, who is making the reservation. At this point we would appreciate it if you consider this pretty much a commitment. We have made a reservation for 30, if only 10 show up, it could be a hardship on the restaurant.
Dinner count update
On Monday May24, I will be posting a list of who has signed up for dinner. Please check to make sure you are on it, and e-mail me if you aren't. If you haven't signed up yet, and still wish to attend, we have a few more spaces. Please e-mail me directly
Love Letters--A Review from NY
Barbara in NY recently had a chance to see a local version of the play. Here is an excerpt of her commentary
If this is the only "version" of the play and will be the same one that Scott and Chelsea do in California, I have to say that Chelsea has the better role.
The male role ("Andy") is the steady, grounded personality of the play and doesn't have much chance to emote. He basically sits at a desk "writing" letters to his friend since childhood, Melissa. Melissa, on the other hand, is unstable, emotional, and erratic and screams and curses and cries throughout.
The first act can be a little boring, but the second act succeeded in bringing tears to my eyes. These two characters are like two horseshoe-shaped magnets.... always attracting each other yet repelling each other at the same time, and never fitting together comfortably. I won't give anything away about the storyline, but I expect that with two fine actors playing these parts, the play will be very moving.
I saw a very local production (curtains were drawn across the back of a church and the play was performed in the vestibule). The only props were two desks on opposite ends of the stage, with books and papers on the desks. In the middle of the stage was a pillar with a bottle of vodka and a glass. Period. The actors read from their letters, only occasionally glancing up at the audience and never at each other. Andy never moves, and Melissa rises from her desk only three times.
All you lucky people that will be in Glendale on June 12th, ENJOY!
thanks to Barbara
