Some visitors and inhabitants of our garden:
| The bold squirrels exasperate
us, but also entertain us. |
The rabbits are a pain.
They have eaten our pansies, marigolds, creeping phlox and even a gumpo
azalea. |
This chipmunk is gorging
himself at the foot of our birdfeeder. |
| Black swallowtail butterflies
love our lantana |
As do the tiger swallowtail
butterfiles |
Fritillary butterfly
on our echinacea |
| Our birdfeeders have
given us much enjoyment. Here Mr. Cardinal is joined by a black-capped
chickadee. |
Mr. Towhee enjoying his
meal. |
Mrs. Towhee coming to
eat. |
| The hummingbirds love our cypress
vine |
and come to our hummingbird feeder. |
This praying mantis in our garden
was 4 inches long. |
| Mr. Cardinal again |
Note Mrs. Cardinal on
the deck waiting her turn for the bluejay to finish. |
The mockingbird with
his amazing songs visits us often. |
| Birds aren't the only
thirsty ones. This is one of our friendly neighborhood vole catchers. |
And here is another one.
We are happy that they patrol our yard. |
This guy, ready to take
a drink, dug holes all over our yard. |
| We love the colorful goldfinches. |
They love our thistle feeder |
and our birdbath. |
| One day this big turtle appeared
in our lawn. |
We have no idea where he came from. |
He doesn't look too friendly |
| More birds at our birdbath:
mourning doves |
Mrs. Towhee taking a bath while
Mr. Towhee waits his turn |
Yellow shafted flickers feeding
among our flowers |
Other birds that visit us include nuthatches,
tufted titmice, wrens, thrashers, catbirds, thrushes, brown-headed cowbirds,
grackles, finches and sparrows.
