3/4 lb. unsalted butter
1 egg
1/2 lb. powdered sugar
1 tsp. sugar
1/3 cup Mazola oil
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup lukewarm milk
a few drops cinnamon oil
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
pinch of salt
about 1 3/4 lb. flour
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease cookie sheets.
Cream butter well and gradually add sugar. Cream together thoroughly. Gradually add the Mazola oil and blend well. Add the 2 beaten eggs, mix well. Add the milk and cinnamon oil and mix well. Sift 2 cups of the flour with the baking powder and salt and gradually add to batter. Sift the rest of the flour and add to batter slowly. Add just enough flour so that koulouraki will hold its shape.
Pinch off small piece of dough, roll into rope, twist into desired shape (see picture above) and put on greased cookie sheet. Beat 1 egg with 1 tsp. sugar. Brush tops of koulourakia with egg.
Bake at 350 degrees 15 to 20 minutes until very lightly browned.
