THE WORLD WE KNOW

Many of the decisions I have made in my life have been unpopular. I've been called a freak, different, weird and many other names because of the path I have chosen to take. It used to bother me when people criticized my choices but as I matured, I learned that I would much rather walk my path alone than to travel a more popular road to a destination I have no desire to reach. Only one statement spoken by many people still bothers me..."You're only one person, you can't make a difference." I find this very sad because I believe one person can make a big difference. I hope this page will inspire all who visit to practice "Random Acts Of Kindness & Senseless Beauty". I will be adding links that I believe are worthy of attention, maybe you will find one you are interested in supporting. Each of us can make a difference inThe World We Know!

"I pledge the allegiance to the earth, one planet, many gods, and to the universe in which she spins."

Making A Difference

One day a man was walking along the seashore. He noticed that during the night many seashells and starfish had washed up on the shore. Thoroughly enjoying the morning sun and cool sea air, the man strolled for miles along the sand.

Far off in the distance, he saw a small figure dancing. The man was joyous that someone was celebrating life in such a grand and uninhibited manner. As he drew closer, however, it became apparent that perhaps the figure was not dancing but was repeatedly performing some ritual.

Approaching the small figure, the man noticed that it was a child. The girl was methodically picking up starfish from the shore and tossing them back into the surf. The man paused for a moment, puzzled, then ask, "Why are you throwing those starfish?"

"If I leave these starfish on the beach," she replied, "the sun will dry them, and they will die. So I'm throwing them back into the ocean because I want them to live."

The man was silent for a moment, impressed with the child's thoughtfulness. Then he motioned up and down the miles and miles of beach and said, "There must be millions of starfish along here! How can you possibly expect to make a difference?"

The young girl pondered the man's words for a moment, then she slowly leaned over, reached down, and carefully picked up another starfish from the sand. Pulling back, she arched the starfish gently into the surf.

She turned to the man and smiled. "You may be right," she said, "but I made a difference for that one!"

Animal Rights Organizations

P.E.T.A - People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals
A devout animal rights activist group founded and run by Alex Pacheco. Some of their tactics are extreme but they work! I'm a card carrying member.

Fund For Animals
Another great animal rights organization.

Animal Legal Defense Fund
An organization based out of Petaluma, CA that takes direct action to protect animals from exploitation and abuse. Works to establish legal rights for animals. I've had personal dealings with this organization when I decided to take on a project locally. They were very helpful and kind. This organization is very worthy of your support.

Church Of The Ark
Ministry devoted to the care and respect for all animals. This is a great site. I have had many followers of the Baptist faith tell me that the Bible states that animals have no souls. I always ask them where it states this so I may read it for myself, funny they never can tell me. Since I am no authority on the Bible, I decided to talk to someone who should be. I talked to three local Baptist ministers and they told me they had never read this anywhere in the Bible. Hmmmmm... So if anyone out there can tell me where this is located, please e-mail me the information.

Coalition To Abolish The Fur Trade
Their name says it all.

Doris Day Animal League
Organization founded by...guess who?...Doris Day. Founded National Spay Day.

Farm Sanctuary
Organization dedicated to ending the exploitation of animals used for food production. This is a good site for the promotion of Vegetarianism. Not only for humane reasons but for health reasons also. Meat eaters might not want to visit...LOL!

Friends of Animals
Excellent international animal rights organization working to protect animals with major projects to stop the poaching of African elephants and campaigns against hunting, trapping, and fur.

Sanctuary For Animals
Wonderful organization dedicated to finding and providing loving homes for misplaced or abandoned animals.

PeaceBaby's Tips For Non-Hunters During Hunting Season

As you may know, around the third week of November each year starts the major part of hunting season. I hate this time of the year. Living in Alabama, four miles from the Buckmasters International Hunting Lodge has been quite a challenge for me. (They don't like me very much...I'm not sure why.) These are just a few of my tips for all non-hunting animal lovers. Please remember, there has been a law passed against harrassing hunters so these are mere thoughts for you to ponder.

1) During this time of the year take frequent walks through the forest. Make sure you bring your portable radio...tune it in to your favorite rock station and turn it up full blast! Bring a friend to talk to...remember you must yell to be heard over the radio. If you are alone, it's so much fun to sing as loud as possble with all the songs.
2) Make sure you consume as much liquid as possible. I'm not one for promoting we use our forest as public restrooms but "marking" the territory around a tree-stand is quite helpful to our forest friends. If approached by a hunter and ask what you are doing...tell them "when you gotta go, you gotta go."
3) Visit your local hair salons and barber shops and ask them to save all their fresh cut hair for you. (OK...they may think you are strange and have some kind of weird fetish but it's for a good cause.) Bring this with you on your walks and distribute freely around any areas you think need some fresh cut hair...*grin*!

4) Did you know that it is illegal to bait land for hunting purposes? So let's say someone baited some public or private hunting land and someone made an anonymous call to the game warden about that baited land. It seems that by law this land is considered off limits for hunting for an entire season. Hmmmm... I thought I should let you know about this law.

To all of my friends who are hunters (yes, believe it or not, I have some)...sorry, but you know how I am.

"Get a feel for fur...Slam your fingers in a car door!"
"People are more violently opposed to fur than leather because it is easier to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs."
"Vegetarians Taste Better!"

Environmental Organizations

GreenPeace
One of the largest and best organizations working to protect our environment and endangered species. This is a link to their US chapter.

Human Rights Organizations

Amnesty International
One of the largest human rights organizations. This is a link to their US site.

The Milarepa Fund
A non-profit organization started by the "Beastie Boys" (Yep, you read that correctly.) in 1994 to raise funds for helping the Tibetian people.

Refuse & Resist!
An organization that says NO to war on women, concentration camps for immigrants, censorship of the arts, resurgent racism, police state measures, gay bashing, and compulsory patriotism. WOW...a bunch of militant, radical, leftist-liberals...cool...they sound fun!

Religious Freedom International
Human Rights group that acts in behalf of religious minorities worldwide. Hmmmm...do you think Judge Roy Moore and Alabama Governor Fob James are supporters of this organization?

A.C.L.U. - American Civil Liberties Union
I may not always like what they fight for but I am so thankful that we have someone to do it.

I'll be adding more links from time to time, so make sure you come back. If you know any I've forgotten, let me know.
