He was a baker, and was a scholar. He appeared in the 1910 US census.
The following information is from Sarah Hersher Brown about her grandfather
as told to Sharon Edelson on August 4, 1991:
He had 9 or 10 children but only six survived birth. They were very religious
going to synagogue twice a day. He was a scholar and really did not work as
a baker. They owned a grain mill. When he came to USA he was not capable of
working as he was a scholar and they took in boarders and had to scrounge to
live. After his wife passed away he couldn't keep his hands off the women who
were hired to help in the boarding house.
Sara his wife was in love with Simon's brother but the family would not let them
get married. Granddaughter Sara did not know which brother she was in love with.
They were a wealthy family and had two living rooms in their house. The children
were not allowed to go into one livingroom. The children also did not eat with
the family, they ate by themselves. She also said a sister died in an accident
with a bob sled? She didn't know which one. She also said there were some family
who came to USA but returned to the old Country. She didn't know which ones. Shaia
(Simon) Michal Edelson and Sara Cohen were married in Russia. Sara Cohen8
died in 1905 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.11
She was born in Russia.12
She appeared in the 1910 US census. Sara died at an early age after
giving birth to 2 more children after they settled in Lancaster, PA. Shaia (Simon)
Michal Edelson and Sara Cohen had the following children:

Ansel were married about 1926. Rose Ansel
died in Baltimore, Maryland.13
She was buried in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Tante Rose is buried
in Lancaster, PA. |
