Mar 9

3-2 loss
(g-Lazanja, Sommers
)

vs. Roospect
We went down two goals in the first half. Managed to come back with one. Went down another. Came back with another, but still not enough. Good showing generally but a good opponant too.
Mar 16
4-3 WIN
(g- Lazanja x2, Madero x2)

vs. PWC
Pretty decent game tonight, all in all. Colin started it off with a left side power shot. Then David nugded us up 2-0. They came back with a cheap toe ball but Marco took us up again to 3-1. Marco continued the shenanigans with a (entirely accidental I hear) foot to the face of one of their players. Though they didn't see it that way. Discipline slipped in the second half and they came back with a second goal on a freak deflection and a third seemed to slip through a certain keeper's hand somehow. But not before David had scored again with his LEFT foot no less, giving us the upper hand, or foot as the case may be, at the end.
Mar 23

4-4 tie
(g- Madero x3,
Gifkins x1)

vs. Southlads

Description by Dave H:
"We took a 2-0 lead on two excellent goals by Marco that were set you on great passes by Josh. Then we had a half dozen chances to score again but kept missing the net. They came back to take a 4-2 lead on some shoddy defending, mostly by me.
But we got back to 4-3 on another Marco goal and then tied it up 4-4 on goal that Colin might have pushed in with his stomach directly from a throw in. There was some controversy because South's thought they should have gotten the throw. So, we were pushing for the winner with Colin basically in all alone on the big goal upstairs and the ref blew the whistle and called it game over.

We played pretty well as a team. We moved the ball around, made some runs and generally had everyone involved in the game. John got forward at times, Darren was really working to get forward and back.

Mar 30

7-0 WIN
(g-Madero x3, Lazanja x2, Murphy x1, Anderson x1)

vs. DB United
Whoo whee! Juniors goes to town! Kind of a goal-fest tonight. What to say except that we ran up the score. Notable goals included a sassy backheel from Marco, several beautifully placed goals from David L, and one fantabulous free kick goal from Steve. Truly a great restart. Nice to see Marshall back on the board as well. The competition was soft as the score reflects, but they still challenged occasionally and I, as the keeper, had a bit of work. The ref was atrocious - he pretty much blew every out of bounds call and declined to call upwards of 6 slide tackles. Obviously didn't hurt us much though.

Apr 6

4-4 Tie
(g-Lee, Murphy, Anderson, Sommers)

vs. Fishfunk
Weird game. Huge goals. Score should have been many to few. Nice goals from all who scored. But our vibe seemed off. Just one of those nights when a tie felt like a loss.

Apr 13

5-0
Forfeit WIN!

vs. Bloomberg
Bloomberg couldn't field a team so we get the point. The Juniors scrimmage that took the place of the game was rudely cut short by the lights going out so an early adjournment to the EAR ensued.
Apr 20

4-1 WIN
(g-Lazanja, Lee, Martinez x2)

vs. Seniors

Seniors falls under the unstoppable juggernaut of the Juniors machine. David L. starting the scoring with and excellent right footer and then proceeded miss most of the rest of his shots. One of those nights for David, I suppose. Seniors got one back on a hand ball that when uncalled followed by a toe ball from onetime Juniors, Partha. Oooh! Temporary Gotham sub Greg got the second and it was all downhill from there. Josh Lee sunk a third one in the second half and then Greg got the fourth again after much time was spent playing with Seniors. Lots of crosses, not too many shots. Lots of misses. A nice win but it should have been about 10-0. Good work from everyone- solid defending in the back from John and Dave H. and good stuff in the middle and front from everyone else. Thanks to both Greg and Andy for filling in on a short night.

Apr 27

Forfeit WIN

vs. Bloomberg

Bloomberg couldn't field a team for the playoffs so we breezed through the first round. Tried to play a scrimmage at JJ Walker but the lights went off on us AGAIN. You won't sucker us into playing there again, Jaime!

May 4

Semifinals
WIN 7-4
(g- Lazanja x3, Smith x2, Madero x1, own goal x1)

Finals
Loss 1-0

vs. Southlads

vs. Roospect

We played an excellent hard fought game against the 'Lads in the semifinals. Juniors stormed out of the box and ran the score up to 3-0 in the first ten minutes on goals by David L, Marco, and an own goal. Then the Lads got organized and came back with two goals by the half. Second half played even for a long time, but then David opened it up to 4-2. Souths came back again to make it 4-3 but that's the closest they got. Two more goals from Andy and another from David. Southlads got one more but the outcome was eventually sealed.

The final game was a long stalemate. Juniors dominated possession 85% of the time but couldn't get anything through a tight Roospect defense. Still 0-0 at half. Roospect kept packing the back and playing the long ball down to one or two guys in the front and eventually slipped one in on defensive error in the second half. It was an even game, but not very satisfying. Juniors denied the trophy again. Sigh.

Where do all these wankers come from? These fellas were diving right and left and whining and fouling. Truly great to pull a win out of our hat and beat this bunch. We won't talk about the fact that they were playing a man down and came close to beating us anyway. None the less, superior firepower prevailed on this rainy night.

vs. Southlads
Always a pleasure playng the gents from Souths and even more a pleasure when we win. They've beaten us the last 3 or 4 times so we were overdue. David opened the scoring with a searing shot from the outside left that caught all unawares. Souths responded a bit later with a low fast ball across the box and into the corner that I couldn't get enough of a hand on. The score stayed even for most of the game when we opened it up in the last 10 minutes. Greg scored a class touch that faked the keeper and then set up Andy shortly thereafter with a beautiful cross. All in all a classy outing for the Juniors, playing near the top of our game.

vs. Society Generale

vs. Gotham

A double header makeup from last week's snowout. Juniors opened the evening with a goal-fest against last place Soc Gen. We had a slow start in the first half, but Juniors grit came through and there was little trouble finishing them off.

The second game brought the long awaited matchup with Gotham. David L defected to Gotham giving both teams one sub. A tight fought match saw both teams playing evenly. Gotham got the lead though when Keith McEvoy was able to put away the rebound from David Lazanja power shot. Gotham went on to make it 2-0 in the second half on another powerful shot from David L that just barely deflected off of Colin's leg and away from the goalkeeper's hands. Close to the end, Keith McEvoy went down with a knee injury and was forced to play down a man. Colin sank a magnificent cross the box shot into the net to save some dignity for Juniors and the game ended 2-1. This rivalry is far from over though and Juniors relishes our rematch, whenever it may happen!

UGLY. It figures after a championship win we'd come down a bit but this was a bit much. They were good, but not that good. We just struggled and errored. Kudos to John for the excellent run and face-saving goal!
Oct 6
5-2 WIN
( g - Madero x2, Moraes X1, Own Goal X2)
vs. Southlads
(Described by Dave H. I was gone this week - Peter)
"A comfortable win for Juniors last night. We let Souths get out to a quick 2-0 lead and then starting taking the game to them. We got back to 2-2 on goals from Marco and Sandro. Then an own goal, a second for Marco and another own goal. So, Own Goal has over taken John to be tied for the team lead with Marco. Amazingly, the team that killed us last week, tied Fish Funk (and it took a late goal for them to get the tie)."

Oct 20

4-4 Tie
(g - Anderson x2, Lee x2)

vs. Aurora

Ugly first half as we go down 3-0. But a sassy long distance bouncing goal from Marshall and a fortuitous penalty kick put us back in the game in the second half. Two more goals from Josh put us out on top, but a late one from Aurora tied it up. Coulda shoulda woulda, but a tie is an ok result.

Oct 27
3-1 WIN!!!
(g - Babiker, Madero, Lee)
vs. Maracaibo

Seems like we're detecting a Juniors pattern - Show up asleep, give up an early goal or two, wake up, step up tempo, and even it up or win. Tonight was no exception. Early breakaway put them up 1-0. Then a classy one-two and visiting player Adam Babiker evened it up. Marco sank a second one in the first half to give us the edge. We held them off in the second half mostly because we shut down their one shooter. (Kudos to John for taking on this task and masterfully marking their guy out of the game.) A third goal from Josh sealed their fate. It wasn't pretty, but what the hey, it's a win.

Nov 3

7-3 Loss
(g - Lee, Horowitz, Madero)

vs. FishFunk
Oh boy this was ugly. It was so bad it really doesn't deserve a description. The only high points were our three goals. Kudos to John for setting up Dave for his goal too. Even my best save was only because my shoes caught on the turf and I fell over at just the right time. A week best forgotten.
Nov 10

3-3 tie
(g - Madero x2, Brian x1)

vs. Seniors
Well, it wasn't particularly pretty, but it wasn't a loss. We gave up an early one, then tied it up a few minutes later with a solid goal from Marco (who gets big points for coming straight from the airport to the game). Then we promptly gave up two more on somewhat sily plays.
In the second half, Matt Brian was the scoring link in the soon-to-be-patented Juniors "Power Counter" that helped pull us back in striking range. (Couldn't have been more than 10 seconds from the time the ball left my hands at our end before Matt put it in the net at the other.) Marco sank a decisive third goal to tie us up for the final. The refereeing was on the far side of questionable, as usual. But we did manage to negotiate a penalty kick down to an indirect kick (which they missed fortunately.) UK visitor Adam Babiker actually had our fourth goal which was called back on an erroneous hand ball call. You can bitch to the ref but in only gets you so far. Not a bad night overall.
Nov 17

4-1 WIN!!!
(g - Madero x3, Steve x1)

vs. DB United

Finally pulled a win out of our hat. They were a pretty weak team and Juniors, playing with no subs, played a reasonably tight game and took it to them. Chilliest night of the season and I was getting a bit nippy standing around waiting for action. Not a lot coming to our goal area. We had a lot of shots, should have converted two or three more. Marco with a classy hat trick. Guest Brit Steve helped out and knocked one in as well. All rather satisfying.

6-3 Loss
(g-madero, anderson, mccarthy)

vs. Southlad

Weird game. Juniors came out reasonably strong, but still gave up two early goals to the 'lads. Then their keeper went down with a dislocated knee. Ugly! They're playing a man down so being the sporting guys we are, we play a man down too. And Southlads promptly scores three more leaving us 5 goals down; mostly all breakaway goals. 2nd half, Souths slows down a bit and we get three quick one from Marco, Marshall, and Darren. Not enough though. Souths gets one more and it's over. As Josh pointed out, it's probably just as well we played a man down to match them. It we'd played with a man advantage and lost it would have been pretty embaressing. Oh well. there's always winter season.

Semis vs. Southlads
Finals vs. Juventus

Wow! We show up with ten guys expecting to play 7v7 and they've changed the field and we're only playing 6v6 which means four on the sideline. No matter. Two up on Southlads on goals by Marshall and super-sub Chris Danelian and we let them come back with two to equalize on goals off of throw ins. Two Lads went down injured at the same time and took a little wind out of them. Two 5 minute overtimes and nothing changes. Penalty shots and we sank three and they sank only two with a save by Peter. On to the finals!

Final game. They've expanded the field and we get to play 7v7 now and we're playing a slightly winded Juventus whose goalie went out injured in the previous game, though their replacement is pretty decent too. Two goals put us up at the half but we let them slip one in the backside and it's 2-1. Juniors controlled the action though and the outcome was never in doubt. Another goal puts us over the top and final is 3-1, with goals by Marshall, Chris, and Sandro

Nice work Juniors! First championship in over a year. Classy teamwork carries the day!

Quite a demotion derby! Kudos to Marco for the nutmeg throw-in and to Dave H for his goalie 'meg as well. Micah is scoring so consistantly that it almost doesn't warrent a note. And FINALLY, a free round at the Ear to boot. Those of you who skipped this week MISSED OUT.

June 16
6-4 WIN (g-Anderson x3, Lee x2, Lazanja x1)
vs. Aurora
Excellent work holding off these wankers. MVP of the game goes to Marshall "Hat-Trick" Anderson. He's giving Micah a run for the high scorer position. Tonight also saw the return of Matt from the injured list - with a little sass and attitude he distracted the other team long enough for Josh's first goal. Nice work all around.
June 23
7-5 WIN (g-Lazanja x2, Sommers x2, Lee x1, Madero x1, Moraes x1)
vs. Maracaibo
Vengence for their playoff abuse of us last season! Solid playing from everyone. When we strung it together, we completely dominated them. Beauty of a header goal from David L - perfect cross from Micah to David's head to a ricochet of the post and in. Great goals from Micah and everyone else as well!
June 30
5-2 WIN (g-Lazanja x2, Lee x2, Madero x1)
vs. FishFunk
Marco opened the score with slashing "in your face" goal in the first 30 seconds, followed by another goal by David L shortly thereafter. Then we slowed down a bit and let the Fishers come back with two goal. Juniors rallied though and from there on it was all over. Another goal by David and two by Josh sealed the deal. Micah still holds the scoreing lead however.
July 7
5-3 WIN (g-Madero x1, Lazanja x2, Moraes x2)
vs. Seniors
Again, Marco opened the scoring minutes into the first half in what looks like a rather nice trend. Reserve player Sandro Moraes followed with a second goal and David L. knocked in a third. Two more goals in the second half from Sandro and David polished off Seniors. Nice passing, dominating play. The outcome was never in doubt. Excellent work everyone on an undefeated season!
July 14
6-2 WIN (g-Moraes x1, Lazanja x2, Brian x2, Lee x1)
vs. FishFunk5
The triumphant return of Thomas and Matt! Fishfunk misbehaved and was spanked by Juniors. We opened with a blindy flurry, scoring three goals in three minutes. Fishfunk came back with two on a couple of errors, but second half goals by Matt, David, and Josh sealed the deal. And of course it wouldn't be a game with Matt if there wasn't fight. At one point both teams were playing two men down due to yellow cards. On to bigger and better things next week!
July 21

SEMIFINAL 2-1 WIN
(g-Lazanja x1, Lee x1)

FINAL 7-4 LOSS
(g-Lazanja x2,
Horowitz x1, Lee x1)

v. Maracaibo

v. Southlads

On a hot night, David L. opened the semifinal scoring with a beautiful net ripper early in the game. Josh followed later with his own scorcher. Maracaibo got on the board on a deflection own goal off of Marco. Valentin the ref made his usual unfathomable calls, eventually driving one Maracaibo player to lose it and spit on the ref and push him. A red card followed but Juniors wasn't able to further punish them.

On to the finals with Southlads. Again David L opened the scoring minutes into the first half. Juniors controlled well, but Southlads answered with a goal minutes later. Then they snuck in a second goal on a rebound off of Peter's save later in the first half. A hard semifinal game and the heat took its toll and Juniors faded in the second half with the score running to 5-1 against us at one point. A late rally brought us back in the game, but wasn't quite enough. All in all, though a very classy and clean game, nobody whined, no dirty play. If we had to go down, Southlads is a great team to whom to lose. There's always next season......
