Samuel C. Harriger

Samuel Curtin Harriger passed away to his reward Tuesday afternoon, September 1, 1931, at his home in Monroe township, after a short illness of bronchial pneumonia, aged 70 years, 11 months and 15 days.

Deceased was born in Knoxdale, Jefferson county, on September 16, 1860, the son of George and Hannah (Rhoades) Harriger. When he was six years of age the family moved to Clarion county. In 1896 he was united in marriage to Katherine Orr and to this union were born five children, four of whom survive, namely: Elsie Henry, Russell Harriger, Glen Harriger, and Mrs., Francis Parsons. One son, Rayburn, died in 1911.

In March 1925 he married Mrs. Lucy Southwell who survives with the following brothers and sisters: James Harriger of rolfe, Iowa; Jackson Harriger of Sligo, Pa., R. D.3; Mrs. Frank McMahon, Limestone, Pa.; and Mrs. Bird McElravy, Sligo, Ap., R.R.3.

Mr. Harriger lived practically all his life in Monroe township and was highly esteemed by all who know him, for his integrity and for his honest and upright life. He was a loving husband and an affectionate father and a kind and helpful neighbor at all times.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 2:30 P. M. in the Licking Presbyterian church by his pastor Rev. H. D. Call, of Clarion. The Presbyterian quartet, composed of C. V. Curll, Mrs. Kirk Philips, Mrs. E. E. Miller and Edward McKee, accompanied by Miss Minnie Campbell, sang two numbers, "Safe In The Arms of Jesus" and "Meet Me There." Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery under the direction of Ralph Hawk.

Card of thanks

We wish to express our heartfelt thanks for the kindness and sympathy shown us during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father; also for the floral tributaries and the use of cars. -Mrs. Lucy Harriger and children.

SPECIAL NOTE :

Samuel’s marriage to Kate Orr was in 1897 (per courthouse records) not 1896 as stated above. Also, Rayburn did not die in 1911 !
