Paul and Mary in San Diego, CA
A Weekend in "Sunny" Southern California
5.16.2002 - 5.19.2002

A lovely military cemetary near the Cabrillo National Monument and near the San Diego lighthouse.

Mary as tour guide of the San Diego lighthouse.

This national historic site was abandoned in the late 1800's because it was in the clouds too often and therefore not effective as a lighthouse.

While Paul investigated the statue in tribute to Cabrillo, who founded San Diego, Mary found a lighting lens for a really big fresnel! (A lighthouse light!)

Mary indicates where we are staying (right) and where we are (left) on this great map model.
A map model of the San Diego area. A nice girl took our photo.
Funny, though, she kept asking Paul to take another step back...

On left, a nice little beach place owned by the military.
On right, Mary is standing in front of a gun implaacment that looks out on the Pacific. See how well defended she looks.

The rocky coast line at the tidepools at the base of the lighthouse. A nice guy took our photo with the coast in the background.

The tidepools at the bottom of the coastline are complete microcosms of sealife.

Hey, some big rocks!  Mary enjoying the surf and the cool (freezing) ocean breeze.

Paul tries his hand at surfing. Pretty good, hunh? Even though it was a little cold in the Pacific.
