The Mystic Gryphon

Introduction and History

Hold onto your seats guys and gals 'cause we are going back in time and it could be a bumpy ride!

This first class is designed to introduce the students to the teacher and vice versa, allow the students to interact with and get to know each other. During the evening the topics covered in the course are discussed, the meeting time is arranged, and the reason the course is offered. The majority of the class is spent discussing the role of magick, religions and Wicca throughout history. While a good deal of time is spent covering the European and American history of magick and witchcraft, time is spent discussing the role of Egypt, Sumeria, Babylon, The Middle East, and many other cultures. In addition, the role of the Catholic Church and other Judeo-Christian religions on witchcraft, Wicca, magick and cultural perceptions are discussed.

It is important to have a general understanding of the history of the subject you are learning. This is especially true with magick as all points in time and space are one. In addition, he who is forgetful of the past is doomed to repeat it. Magick, Witchcraft, Wicca have gone through many changes throughout history - these changes have shaped the reality in which we exist today.

At the end of this class you will have a general understanding of the history and forces influencing Magick, Witchcraft and Wicca. In addition to covering history, the first lesson from the class text book is distributed. This lesson represents over twenty years of work this lifetime for the author and instructor. The book was created to be the definitive teaching text for the subject. While many good books exist which can used as texts, none cover the wide variety of subjects as this one. In addition, emphasis is placed on the material which the author feels is essential for the student.
