Tools
A tool is simply an instrument for doing work. Magick is the direction of energy toward a desired goal. While tools are not required to work magick, they are indeed very helpful. Tools can store energy, we can direct energy through them and if lucky they may even have a "life" of its own. Tools can help you in the working or magick, focusing your thought and will.
Tools come in many shapes and forms. This class goes over all the various tools which most witches will ever need and several which you will only really ever encounter in a classroom setting. The creation of items, calling items, cleansing and empowering items are all discussed.
Also in this lesson, the second card of the major arcana is discussed, The Magus or Magician.
The basic tool of the witch is the athame, a ritual dagger used to direct energy and focus will. Although it is a bladed weapon, it is never allowed to draw blood. The purpose, fuction, use, creation, call, cleansing, empowerment and dedication of the athame are discussed. Because of the versatility a good deal of time is spent discussing this tool.
While it is impractical to go into detail on all tools discussed in this lesson, the following tools are covered:
Wand
Cauldron
Libation Dish
Censers
Cord
Sickle
Sistrum
Winged Disk
Cup or Chalice
Mirror of Hathor
Staff
Sword
Uraeus
Crook and Flail
The Utchat or Udjat
The Djed or Tet
Ankh
Caduceus
Scarab
Lotus
Buckle of Isis
And, the list goes on.
After this class, you will know what the basic tools are, what they are used for, how to call for them, how to make them, how to cleanse them, how to empower them, how to dedicate them, how to care for them. Tools can become an important part of your magickal working. While they should never become a crutch, they can be extremely valuable when used correctly.
