Rites of Passage
During the course of our physical life and the course of our spriitual lives we encounter and overcome many hurdles and obstacles. These points are marked transistion points in our lives. There are many events in our lives which we mark and celebrate: Birth, Coming of Age, First Date, First Prom, Marriage, Our first child, Death.
All of these events can be termed "Rites of Passage". This class deals with the different rituals and celebrations marking events in one's life. Initiation, Marriage, Death are only a few of the rites of passage discussed, their signifigance, the rituals used to celebrate these events. As one might expect, initiation is given a great deal of attention.
Rites of Passage can be performed in a solitary atmosphere or with a group. Forms for both solitary and group Rites of Passage are given. In addition, the cultural and social aspects of the rites of passage are also discussed.
This lesson ends with a discussion of the fifth major arcana, The Emperor.
