The cool waters of Lake Burton, Lake Rabun, Lake Seed and Tugalo offer wonderful fishing, boating, swimming and water-skiing opportunities. The wonderful waterfalls, over 50 in our area, make a great goal for any hike, and with Rabun County being 80% National Forest and Parks, our hiking routes are endless and since we are completely pet-friendly - the dog can come too! The Chattooga River, one of seven national whitewater rivers, not only offers incredible rafting and kayaking, but is stocked with trout for fly-fishing, and the banks along this majestic beauty yield a perfect picnic or hike. Horseback riding abounds here, either bring your own horse to Horse Haven's 30 acres, or take a hack with the Dillard House Stables -- it's mountain magic all the way. Our National Parks such as Black Rock Mountain State Park, Tallulah Gorge, Warwoman Dell and Terrora to mention a few, hook up to the famous Appalachian Trail and William Bartrum Trail. Rabun's golfing community has boomed, with Kingwood, Sky Valley and Waterfall Golf Courses; not to mention the expansion of our local Rabun County Golf Course. All seasons are special here: Spring brings blooming dogwood, laurel and rare wild flowers & orchids - and the fastest whitewater; Summer - "where spring spends the summer" (Rabun's County tag line) - says it all, and Floridians have summered here for generations. The higher elevations bring breezes on the porch while the rhododendron strut their glory; Autumn in the mountains is breathtaking, from the reds of the maples, to the purple of the dogwoods - the yellows of the oaks and green of the magnolias -- the "leaf-season" brings out "leaf-lookers" in droves. Long winter views are the best, crisp days are perfect hiking weather (or snuggling by a log-fire with hot cider weather!), and the novice skiing at Sky Valley and Scaly Mountain make a great kids day out. With such a wealth of beauty and real opportunities to be touched by nature, it is small wonder Rabun County has become such a popular spot. Here, at Powerhouse, some mountain home owners are offering their personal retreats for rent, and for you, the would-be escapee, this is a real bonus. Here's why… These homes are not commercial rental units - not purpose built tourist "cabins", or crowded roadside rentals specializing in housing tourists. But private homes, with room, space and freedom to "live" in the mountains for a weekend, week or more. Equipped as a home with linens, cooking facilities, sundries - all you wish for. The mountain welcome is pretty special too - so jump into our website, take your pick of one of our beautiful properties, and make your own mountain memories...
