The Roark Incident Historical Marker
Was Dedicated
October 9, 2000, at 10 a.m.



Thirty two members of he Roark-Conner Association attended a reception at the Tazewell County Historical Society building on Sunday night, October 8th. On Monday, October 9, 200 the members of the Roark-Conner Association and sevral members of the Tazewell County Historical Society assembled at the marker, at the intersection of Baptist Valley Rd and Hwy 637. The dedication service was held in the church near the site. After the dedication service the group was invited to tour the home of Dorothy Wright. This house was built in about 1773 and was the "next door neighbor" to James Roark. The group also visited the site of where many think the James Roark cabin was locater and the cemetery a little north where some think the one killed were buried.

After the tour the group met at the Pisgah Church for a meal served by the ladies of the church.. This church is across the road (Hwy 19/460)from the Crab Orchard Museum and Pioneer Park.


The Cemetery near the James Roark cabin is believed to be the site where the family was buried.
