Getting Started with the HST3D GUI

About HST3D GUI

HST3D GUI is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the groundwater modeling program HST3D. At the time these instructions were written, the current version of HST3D was 2.09 and the current version of HST3D GUI was 1.57. Because HST3D is a separate product from HST3D GUI, the version numbers of the two programs do not match.

Installation instructions

To install the HST3D PIE, you should do the following. 1. If Argus ONE if is not already installed, install it.

2. Make sure that you have the most recent version of Argus ONE (4.20w). You can check the version number by starting Argus ONE and selecting Help|About Argus ONE. A dialog box will appear that includes the Argus ONE version number. If you do not have the most recent version of Argus ONE, you can download it from the following URL.

The HST3D GUI will not work with some older versions of Argus ONE so you must use the current version.

3a. If you downloaded the HST3D GUI, double-click on the file you downloaded. This will start installing the HST3D GUI. It is always best to use a freshly downloaded version of HST3D GUI because it will be the most up-to-date version available. HST3D GUI can be downloaded from http://www.mindspring.com/~rbwinston/hst3d/HST3D_GUI.htm or ftp://ftp.mindspring.com/users/rbwinston/incoming/HST3D2_0/HST3D_GUI.EXE .

3b. If you received the HST3D GUI on disk, place the first disk in your disk drive. Using Windows Explorer, double click on Setup.exe in the first disk. This will start installing the HST3D GUI.

3c. If you received the HST3D GUI as email attachments, extract the attachments from the email messages and then open the zip files using PKZip, WinZip or some other utility program for dealing with zip files. Next, extract the contents of the zip files and place the contents of all the zip files in a single directory. Using Windows Explorer, double click on Setup.exe in the directory to which you extracted the contents of the zip files. This will start installing the HST3D GUI.

4. During the installation, you must select the location where Argus ONE is installed. If you installed Argus ONE somewhere other than the default location, you may need to select the location where you did install it.

Examples

HST3D GUI comes with two example projects. These are installed in the folder Examples\HST3D Examples under the Argus Interware directory. For example, if Argus ONE were installed in the default location, the HST3D Examples would be in C:\Program Files\Argus Interware\Examples\HST3D Examples.

The examples include Argus ONE models with all the data already entered and descriptions of how to recreate the models. The descriptions are in a pair of files named HST3DExample1.pdf and HST3DExample2.pdf.

Uninstalling HST3D GUI

To uninstall HST3D GUI, click on the Start button on the task bar and select Settings|Control Panel. Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs Icon. On the Install/Uninstall tab, select HST3D_GUI and click on the Add/Remove button.
