Under Construction- Ranch to Colonial Conversion. The First Week |
|---|
|
Before the Start of Construction This is obviously 'BEFORE'- the plain vanilla ranch. |
|
The roof trusses have been delivered. The temporary pole
for the power is just visible at the right side of the house. |
|
No sooner had all the lumber been delivered, when it
started raining. And raining. And raining. |
|
It's the dumpster the size of a driveway. Of course they
are planning to put the old roof in it. Someday. |
|
The only visible sign of progress inside. The previous
owners removed a section of load-bearing wall to turn two bedrooms into
one. To hold up the ceiling they had put in a support beam. But it was
a beam suitable to hold up a ceiling, not a second story, so it had to
be reinforced with a bigger, stronger, manlier beam. It's laminated. |
|
Day One and they've got the roof off
and the floor for the new second story built. |
|
The chimney sticks up in the center of the house. |
|
Day Two And the walls go up. In front
of the house, the roof trusses are staged for the crane, which we're
expecting tomorrow. We're going to have to trim back the oak as well-
it's getting a little too friendly with the house. |
|
Same day, different view. |
| Day Three- "Gosh, it's big!"
Day Three And the crane must have
duly arrived, since we now have roof trusses where they belong instead
of crushing the violets. And they even had time cover it over with
plywood. |
|
Same day, different view. |
|
Day Four And now, with shingles!
Ta-da! |
|
And the interior looks cool with all the rafters
exposed. I was really tempted to climb up and take a look, but not
motivated enough to wrestle with ladders. They'll cut the stairs next
week- that'll be soon enough. The windows won't be here until next week
either. |
