Double Irish Chain Quilt - This was the first quilt I made. It is a couch quilt, afghan sized. I tied it for several reasons- because I knew on a couch it would get hard use, because I was trying to start simple, and because I never would have had it done in time for Christmas if I had tried to quilt it! |
Cascading Squares - This was the first quilted project I did. I wanted to keep it simple, so I used only squares and quilted it all in the ditch. |
Baby Blocks - This baby quilt was designed from the inside out. First I made all the blocks, then when I got tired of them, put a border on. A few extra pieces appliqued onto the border seemed the right finishing touch. |
A Sky Full of Balloons - This was an enormously fun quilt. It is a baby quilt and I started it rather late, but the applique was all done in a marathon 3 days (the quilting took rather longer!). I always like bright colors for baby quilts, and for this one I also wanted strong positive imagery. The balloon materials are all different. One balloon is in holly printed fabric (my signature!), another is musical, another has three baby rabbits on it. The clouds are outlined in quilting, the balloons are outlined and their ribs quilted. The border quilting is not visible in the picture, but it is quilted with tumbling geometric shapes- circles, squares and triangles. The largest balloon basket was appliqued, the others were embroidered. |

This sweater was cursed.. after numerous errors that had me reknitting parts of it several times, it came out too small for me to wear. Fortunately, it fit my friend Noreen perfectly. |
Maze Block - I did this to try out the technique of paper piecing. I found that it did indeed produce very accurate blocks, but that putting the blocks together precisely was just as picky as ever! But I liked the effect enough to finish it as a miniature wall quilt. The pattern is called Spanish Tesselation, though I colored it differently. |
I started this sweater for myself, but decided after knitting the back that I didn't like it. Then my sister came along and admired it, so I finished it for her. Happy Birthday, Kate! |
Framed Balloons - This was a fun project that I started to try out some of my new quilting toys. It came out so well that halfway through I decided it was meant to belong to my mom. Happy Birthday, Mom! |
Four Seasons blocks - I was having trouble coming up with an idea for a block for the Interfilk quilt this year. Then I recollected a song about the seasons of New England.. so I had an idea for not one block but four, one for each season. And I got to use the leaf templates I made this fall for no particular purpose. Bonus! |
