Being on a Team
By Renee S., the Fisherman’s Project

I remember as a preteen when I was co-captain on the track team. It was a fun thing. I enjoyed the competition between friends on my home team, as well as the competitiveness with rival schools. We learned the importance of working on one accord to accomplish our goals. We learned how to be victorious even in defeat. Because no team can win them all. But to know we got out and did the best. We were still a team, win or lose. Learning how to keep team spirit helped throughout life.

The Chief Engineer

The doors opened and Captain Lolita stepped onto the Brig.

Captain, we are having difficulty stabilizing the warp core, said the Victory’s Chief Engineer. We have to take an emergency landing.

Ship’s Counselor Bevin was already bracing herself. Chief of Security Vladimir was keying in landing codes.

Captian Lolita turned to Vlad. Look, I want you to make this landing smooth. You hear me Vlad, and Vic?

Ye Sir, we said together.

Petty Officer Alfred, looking confused, said, "Uhh, are we landing?

We just looked at each other and began to go into emergency landing procedures.

Counselor Bevins said, Let’s do it.

Captain said, I’ll make it home in time to have pork chops.

After landing, the Captain said to gather all the oxygen, food, and works. Next we surveyed a map of where we were. Alfred was getting apprehensive. He said, If we just go we can take some rope and be there on time.

Captain Lolita said, Alfred, don’t be ridiculous. You don’t know where you’re going. Anyway, Bevin, I think Alfred needs to talk to you. Now Victoria, what’s the status on our location?

Well, said Victoria, we are 200 miles from our mother ship and we have three days to get there or they’re going to leave without us. Vladimir has already plotted a course.

Well Vlad? Lolita challenged.

Well, said Vlad, if we take this path it will cut our journey by a day and we will get there on time. But I already made contact with them and they are sending a shuttle to get us.

Bev was ecstatic, but no one noticed Alfred sneaking out of the ready room as he grabbed his rope and snuck off the ship. Alfred had decided if he walked straight ahead he’d get there.

We spent five hours looking for him after the shuttle craft came. We found him some kind of way. He had tied his rope around a rock and was floating in space at the end. So his rope came in handy after all.
