This publication was produced by VOICES, a nonprofit organization founded in Raleigh, NC in 1992 to teach literacy and writing skills to homeless and disadvantaged adults and families.

. Much of the writing came out of workshops taught Richard Krawiec and Larry Fraller at the Men’s Shelter, the Fisherman’s Project (a program run by the Interfaith Food Shuttle to train at-risk adults for jobs in the food service industry) and JobStart (a program designed to help women in prison transition back into the community). Other writing comes from the News From Our Shoes Project, led by Michael Watkins and Thomas Glover, who attended VOICES workshops.

This publication, and the workshops, were made possible by a grant from the North Carolina Arts Council and donations to VOICES.
