first bus ride

Tomorrow morning is a special morning.
One of my kid's will get on the school bus for the first time tomorrow morning.
Oh...no, it is not my first child to get on a school bus, and it won't be my last, but it is special none the less. You see, tomorrow morning my little girl will take her first bus ride to school...
my only little girl will take her first bus ride to school.
She has all her things ready. She has her back pack full of new and exciting school supplies.
She has notebooks ready to be written in with all of her sharpened pencils. She has drawing paper ready to be drawn on by never opened magic markers. She has erasers to wipe out those mistakes that will be made along the way. She has a towel to lay her head on at nap time during the day. She has new sneakers to run in on her first time at recess. Oh yes, she has it all ready.
She has her clothes all laid out on her bed, so that she can be ready as fast as she can.
Yes, she is ready.
Tonight she will dream of new adventures that she has only heard about from her 2nd grade brother. Tonight she will toss and turn with anticipation of what tomorrow will bring. Tomorrow morning her mom and I will walk her to the bus stop, take a few pictures, hug, and say,
"have a great day!", as we put her on the bus for her first bus ride.
I could see the excitement in her eyes. (I won't forget that.) As I knelt beside her bed to say her prayers tonight. I could see the excitement as I told her how very proud I am of her. Oh, that smile. She said to me, "You know, Daddy, the first thing I'm going to do is meet a new friend."
How are you doing? Are you excited about what tomorrow will bring, or is it just another day at school; just another day at the office. I believe that each night God prepares our backpacks with the new and sharpened tools we need for the next day. I believe God puts us on our school bus, or in our car each morning, ready to send us on new and exciting adventures in His kingdom. He is ready for us to say, "You know, Daddy, the first thing I'm going to do is meet a new friend!"
Sadly though, most of those backpacks are sitting by our front doors, never carried; never opened.
And most of our bus rides, and rides to work are full of routine and frustration;
And many of us have lost the will to meet new friends.
Or to even tell the friends we have that God loves them.
Would you do this today. Let God fill you with a new excitement. Let God fill you with the excitement of a child anticipating her first bus ride. Open your backpack and let God sharpen your tools. Let God use His eraser to wipe away your mistakes. Let God draw you a renewed vision on clean paper with never opened magic markers. Let God ride with you on the bus, or in your car, and fill you with excitement of what your destination will bring. Let God fill you with a passion to share His love with those you know, and those "new friends" that you don't know yet.
In Revelation 2:3-5 it says, "You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you! You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent, and do the things you did at first."
Slip your backpack on.
Anticipate what God has prepared for you today.
Take your first bus ride...again!
just a thought...
