Dirtside II is a tactical, sci-fi, combined arms mineatures war game. It follows a the same premise that make up the Full Thrust and Star Grunt environments. Essentially that the Nations of Earth have moved to the stars and are conducting business as usual. ie, petty colonial fights and sometimes major all-out war. Not to far off from Battle Tech in feel, it gives over to faster play with more units (up to battalion sized units).
Dirtside II's big plus is that it is generic. You can use any 1/285'th or 1/300'th scale figs you want. Though it helps play immensely if the figure and the vehicle it represents are similar if not identical in form (using a wheeled apc as an MBT would confuse everyone of its real nature....not very sporting).
The game covers infantry units, Mechanized forces, VTOL craft (helos and transport craft), Ground Attack Space Craft, riverine units and specialist equipment like engineers, air defence, counter battery artillery and much more.
The game is also realistic with regards to use of Command and Control (they actually have an impact on the game and aren't some expensive unit to throw at your opponents center line because it causes fear to all units), Combat Engineer and Medical units.
Dirtside also meshes well with Stargrunt (the 25mm squad combat game) and Full Thrust (the space ship combat game).
Since it is generic, one can use just about any source of figures one wishes.
The companies I have found make very, good figures that convert well for the game are:New Weapons of Nastiness and terror for Dirtside

I have created a Vehicle Generator Data Base for Filemaker Pro 4.0. The Dbase is called DVG1.13. Please give it a shot. I have saved it to the Info-Mac FTP site. I have updated it to 1.15 at current and added features for building one's Order of battle and changed a few details. I will post it here at some point as soon as I have an opportunity to.
