The complete story of what happened the night of Sunday, July 13th, 2003, must never be fully disclosed.  This is to protect the guilty.   What I can say is that it was spontaneous and most enjoyable.

The evening started out as a solo eight mile test drive having just completed the engine rebuild earlier in the month.  Ninety cans of Bud and a one stuck Jeep later, five men and one women are walking down a country road at 3 AM Monday morning.

Now how could this happen?  How could this Jeep get stuck in apparently such little mud and water?  Well, the intent was not to go four wheeling so I did not attempt to engage the four wheel drive until after we were already stuck.  We were just driving down the evidently not quite completely dried up creek bed when I drove us right into a mud hole.

Attempting to engage the 4 wheel drive after we were stuck was not effective.  The vehicle has to be rolled backwards a little bit to lock the hubs.  Since we were already stuck the vehicle couldn't be rolled backwards.  It didn't help that we had 800 pounds of people in the Jeep to help sink it.  In the picture you can see how clean the front right tire is.  It never dug in.

The next day my cousin Phil drove his 3/4 ton pickup down to the creek and we were able to tow the Jeep out backwards.  After the truck pulled the Jeep a foot or two the four wheel drive locked in.

No real damage was sustained.   Most of the night was just driving around country roads or in fields.  Only two people fell out the whole night.
