TAL Minutes -
January 2003
Tulsa Area
Libertarians (TAL) met at Ryan's Steakhouse at 7:00 P.M.
January 16, 2003.
The meeting was
called to order by Rob Roberts, Chair.
The
Treasurer's report showed $650.98 in the Account with
additional donations by Billy Roberts, Brenda Bromley, and Sara
Shuman. Additional donations were collected. The only
expense for the month was the $50.00 check for the Christmas Party.
New Business:
Election of Officers
Chair - Angelia O'Dell
Vice Chair - Faye Newby
Treasurer - Mike English
Secretary - Mike Clem
All officers were elected by acclamation.
Responsibilities
Assumed for Standing Committee Chairs were:
Clint Gallatin - Outreach Chair with Tomas Martinez assisting.
Jason Doll - Webmaster for the tulsalp.org website
Mike Clem - Tulsa Area Newsletter
Lynn Atherton - Recording Secretary
Our Guest
Speaker, Belinda Silverstar of the Oklahoma Green Party was
introduced and spoke on the problems of ballot access for third
parties. She presented the highlights of her work with
the Oklahomans for Ballot Access Reform (OBAR) and Libertarian Representative on OBAR, Mike Randazzo.
She emphasized the necessity of continuing to work
closely together as Mike will soon be called up for military
service. She touched on a variety of ideas for reaching and
educating, such as bulk mailings to Independents. She noted
that most voters and even the legislators are unknowledgeable
regarding ballot access. She presented a brief run down of other
ideas that would require legislative changes, such as obtaining
lower percentage numbers from the legislature, write in vote
ability, approval voting, and instant run-off voting. After
Ms. Silverstar's presentation an extended question and answer
period followed.
