TAL Minutes -
February 2003
Tulsa Area
Libertarians (TAL) met at Ryan's Steakhouse at 7:00 P.M.
February 20, 2003
The meeting was
called to order by the newly elected chair, Angelia O'Dell.
Visitors brought
by Belinda Silverstar were welcomed and introduced.
Reports were as
followed:
Jason Doll reported on the website and his plans to continue the
work that others had started and add more links for greater outreach
to those checking on libertarianism.
Billy Roberts
reported on the status of the Ron Hertzog case. This is a
situation that Billy has investigated and has found no justification
for the imprisonment and proceedings against Mr. Hertzog. His
wife has raised $3000.00 of the $5000.00 needed and Billy asked for
our help in raising the other $2000.00. Several members
pledged their support.
Angelia O'Dell
suggested that post cards be sent every other month or that a
calendar be sent that would cover 3 months as a reminder of
meetings. A discussion followed on the possibilities of a
monthly newsletter and expanding our e-mail notification list.
A motion was made to table the decision until further study.
A motion was
made and seconded that TAL yearly dues be raised to $10.00.
After discussion, motion carried.
Clint Gallatin
reported on the progress made for a speaker for the 2004
convention. He has spoken with Harry Browne, who has agreed to
come. The details on his fee will be reported at the next
meeting. As it will be expensive, Clint outlined plans for a
raffle and other fund raisers to support a speaker of this caliber.
Our objective would be at least 300 people at the convention and a
large amount of public relations and advertising to build interest
for the dinner or luncheon. Clint also received word from
National LP that the convention will be May 25th through May 30th,
2004 in Atlanta at the Marriott.
Mike Clem
reported on his objectives for the coming year as Secretary.
He is planning to put out a TAL Newsletter. He requested
article contributions and suggestions for the newsletter. Mike
also reported on the upcoming "Dialog 20-20". This
is a city-sponsored forum to discuss ideas for the development of
Tulsa. The deadline is March 7, 2003 for responding with
ideas.
A lively
discussion followed on current events after the business meeting.
